Tipping.....just get rid of it
I hate having to tip someone at a restaurant or bar. Each time you have to think if you gave them enough or not and then if you are with a crowd at the same table.....what a mess.
My thoughts are just ask a certain price for a meal or drink that incorporates a tip that way theres no issue EVER.
IF I DON'T LIKE THE SERVICE I WILL NOT GO BACK.

True, but most food servers make minimum wage. If all servers are bumped to a higher wage with no tips, think of what that will do to our total dinner bill. Tips are a incentive for servers to provide better service, if a server provides me bad service no tip, good service , I give up to 20 % of the total bill, tip. jmo

We don't go to dinner with a large group amymore, haven't for years, due to check split and tipping issues. It just ruins the whole experience when another couple or two does not pay their fair share.
I agree with Greg, tipping is an incentive for them to provide good service and we always tip accordingly, from $1.00 up to 20% of the bill. At the restaurants we frequent, we always get great service and tip accordingly, so the great service continues. If we experience very poor service, I always inform the Manager and, unless they have with an excellent response and we're invited to return, we just don't ever go back.

As far as Bars, It depends on the type of bar. I'd go to a bar in college with a capacity of around 2000. Granted they'd have 20 bartenders working, But if you tip em after your drinks, you more than likely will get better quicker service when there's 100+ drunk kids up at the bar.
Go to a nicer place with a group of 8 or more and this is hows its done, The gratuity is usually calculated in.
VEry true, If a server provides EXCELLENT service, I've been known to tip more than 20%. Went to steak n shake last late night for some ice cream. Sewrvice was great, total bill was 11.15, I left a 5ver for the kid. (I used to have to work all the holidays)
And thats not even the "regular" wage, I think in IL its 3.09 an hr. or something like that.

Figuring a tip is easy. If you want to tip 10%, move the decimial on the bill 1 place. If you want to tip 15% (quickly becoming the expected amount), add half of the tip to itself.
For example, for a $27.40 bill,
10% = $2.74
15% = $2.74 + $1.37 = $4.11
I'm cheap so I usually just leave 10%

Found this when I googled "proper tipping amount" -
"Please don't get hung up on the 12%. It is just a reasonable example. I recommend tipping 10-15% on the alcohol and 15-20% on the food. 10% on the wine is perfectly acceptable. Whether to tip 10 or 15 percent would depend in large part on how helpful the server was in choosing the wine and serving it.
Food server - 15-20%"
Personally, I tip according to the service I receive...if I am totally satisfied (which seems to be a rarity) with the service, I have no problem with 20%. I have left more than that on occasion, when the service has been exceptional, which again, is a rarity. If the service is dismal, I leave .01. This (IMO) sends a clear message that improvement is needed.
