Maintenance Program(s)

Just purchased a 06 F150 Lariat SuperCrew.
I also purchased an Ford ESP Extended Warranty
plan (yes, I'm well aware of the pros and cons of
OEM vs non-OEM Extended Warranty programs).

Finance guy presented something called "Maintenance
Program" - A Ford program?

Two Tiers.
1 Extra Maintenance.
2 Premium Maintenance.

Essentially, these programs cover all the labor and parts
costs of all recommended maintenance on your Ford car.
(Premium would cover 'wear' items like brakes)

Example, For 0 deductable, 6 yrs, 75K miles, I was quoted
$1,500. Although I think I can encourage him to discount it some.

Does anyone have any info or pointers to info about this program?

Thanks in advance.

MaintenanceCare is a great program if: 1) You don't do any of your own maintenance, or 2) you're on the road a lot and have missed the scheduled times to get maintenance performed. The coverage is good at any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer in North America, so if you're half-way across the country and need an oil change, you just pull in to the nearest dealer. Is it a good buy? Only you can decide that; figure out what the scheduled services would cost you over the term on a cash basis. If the numbers are close, then seriously consider it, as you're locking in future services at today's prices. The premium program also covers wiper blades, brake pads, belts and hoses. The program is very popular with our lease customers, as it puts virtually all their vehicle expenses into one monthly payment.

I would certainly keep you money in the bank. I bought an Explorer and 150 at the same time several years ago and bought for both of them even though I knew these policies are greatly overpriced and are generally a poor buy. Consumer Reports has done reports on these and give the same decision. In most cases, if these are catistrophic (sp?) repairs or damage, these usually will happen before the normal warr expires. A gamble game? Yes, but the loser is usually the buyer. If you do go a head with it, ask for a BIG discount and make sure you read the fine print on what you have to do to keep repairs covers such as transmission fluid changed every 12,000 and so forth. Good luck. By the way, the two policies cost me over 3200 bucks and pay back for some claims saved me about 300 scooters.

I leased my wife a 2005 Super Crew Lariat a few months back and opted for the prepaid maintenance. I figured even if it does cost me the same as just paying for the oil changes, tire rotations, fluid changes, brake pads, wiper blades etc... it is worth it as a convenience. Also if oil prices go up my price is locked in, but what are the chances of something changing in the oil industry!
