I purchased a block heater kit from Ford last week. I want to install the block heater that goes where one of the freeze (or core) plugs is. I am looking at the V10 engine block now (2001) Where the ???? do I look for them?
The instructions are horrible and no help. Do I access them from the engine bay- or from below? Something tells me this is better left to a mechanic....
ANy suggestions? I cannot find an engine diagram on the web
if you don't know where the freeze plugs are than maybe this is better left to someone else.
but it is doable, the freeze plugs are in the engine block on the sides of the block, get underneath and you will see the plugs on the side(s) of the engine. use the first plug towards the front.
Jetsfan68 - be wary of these types of block heaters..They aren't as good at holding coolant in as a regular freeze plug is if you catch my drift. I've seen them leak, pop out and in fact I know someone who was scarred for life when one failed while he was under a vehicle, although that wasn't a ford unit.

Jetsfan68,
I had looked into this a while ago and my dealership had a diagram that showed where the heater goes. On a side note, I bought a block heater and went to install it and found out that the dealership gave me one for a diesel, so for now the project's on hold. It's too darn cold out! Anyways, if I'm not mistaken, there's a allen bolt on the drivers side of the block, closest to the firewall. So to summarize, it's on the rear drivers side of the block. Hopefully that'll get you goin'.
