Question 98 timimg chain guides?

I'm looking for any information on the TSB concerning the timing chain guides or engine noise on start up? I understand there is a "recall" for this condition. I need some amunition, I'm getting ready to go to the dealer. "crap, I hate that" I have a 98 with an 4.0 lt "E" sohc.
Once again you guys are the best!! Thanks

Good luck with this!!!!!!!!!! I had the camshaft tensioners replaced in my '97 Explorer (at Ford's expense) and the noise kept on until the guides were replaced. I'm at 108,000 miles now but I wonder how much the engine's life was degraded until Ford fixed these problems!!!

From another post:

"It's not a recall, but the 4.0L SOHC had two Owner Notification Programs released within the last two years. The first one ONP 00M12 covers the camshaft chain tensioers and lower intake manifold o-rings. The ONP extended the warranty on both items to 6 years, 72K miles. The second ONP 01M01 covers the front, left camshaft chain guide. The warranty on it was extended to 7 years, 100K miles. If your timing chain broke due to a bad front, left chain guide and you have less than 100K miles on your Explorer then it is covered under warranty."

98 timimg chain guides?

Hi Tom

I also own a 98 Exployer 4.0 SOHC chain Rattler. The front camshaft tensioner was changed Before 25k. The truck now
has 50k and the rear chain is starting to rattle. ford won't
cover the rear chains. I found a lot of complaints about the
front Chains. Did You Know this engne has four Chains in it ?
Are others having problems with the rear chains ?
Thanks Jack
