226 Flathead ?

What do you guys think about a 226 flathead with dual exhaust. I'm trying to get the flathead 8 sound. I have got a stock manifold on it. I would like to have duals on it. Would it be better to get a header for it(Do they even make one!) I have heard Smithy's mufflers sound the best on a flathead. I think that is what the muffler is called. I'm NEW when it comes to a flathead so don't give me to much of a hard time here. I have got a 46 model 226 flathead 6 and I want it to sound good going down the road. It is a stock motor but as far as a good sound while I'm driving it and at idal what do I need to get to get that flathead sound. I have read on the flathead 8's and 6. There isn't alot of differences in power and compression on the two. I know there is some but not alot. So I know I can get the sound I'm looking for. If anyone can help me with this and also let me know where I can order it from would be a big help. I'm looking for a good old time dual exhaust sound. Thanks Guys

Contact Mile Yoder at Kansas Kustoms 620-663-3256 they will split your exhaust manifold for around $225.00 return shipping included. I have talked to a couple people who have had it done and they do a real nice job. If you would like me to send you some pictures Mike sent me of some manifolds they have done send me an e-mail with your e-mail address

Any in-line 6 sounds sweet with a properly arranged header, as nice or better than a V8 (but different). Not very truck-like necessarily but very nice. Smithy's might not be as good for the 6 as they are for the flat V8, maybe someone who's tried them can chime in. They are pretty much straight-thru's. A turbo-type muffler might mellow it out more, give it some bass..

51ford fan I have tried to look at them and it comes up error when I click on the pics. I can look at your truck pics, by the way you have got a nice looking truck. If it works out on the 52 I'm trying to buy I might be asking you alot of questions. The pics that come up error are the S-10 trans pics and the manifold pics. I'll keep trying to look at the manifold pics I would like to see them up close. Thanks

I have just completed the installiation of the S10 5 speed and 3.23 9" 69 Ford truck rearend in my 51 F1. I can't believe what a difference it has made in the performance of the F1. I think the 226 Flathead 6 with it's long stroke is just perfect for the S10 5 speed trans, to bad the weren't around in 51 to have been a factory installation. I will find out what is wrong with the gallary and get the picture problem fixed. I have the pictures on my computer if anyone wants them you can send me an e-mail with your e-mail address.
