I have a 79 Ford that i bought few years ago and i ended up parking it cause the engine was knocking and just had it parked all this time while anyway i have another 79 Ford F-150 with no engine and a 4 speed manual in it in WHICH im turning into a Automatic and here's my problem. The donor truck has a good C6 with a 205 on there so yesterday i started pulling out the motor, i took everything wire's, bolts, the works, the bellhousing is clear of the motor and when i started pulling the motor away from the truck i notice that on the bellhousing of the transmission, on the passenger side were there are three bolts on one side, the top bolt on the left passenger side cracked...it just cracked off. Im sitting there stunned on how im gonna fix this so the first thought came to me is this wield able. I mean can i wield this cracked piece from the bellhousing back on or if its even possible? I'll try to post pics of it tomorrow.
Cast iron is tough to weld. I would suggest taking it to a welder that knows what they are doing and let them repair it. it sounds like you broke a bell housing mounting bolt. My fear would be the bell continuing to crack if it's used like that.

Cast iron is tuff to weld but I had a exhaust manifld crack in two on me 15 years ago and I welded it with nickle based welding rods made for cast iron than the weld is still holding today. Cast iron also brazes nicely too/ If you have a crack in bellhousing you do want to drill stop the crack before you weld or braze the cracked area.
Unless I am reading it wrong, he is asking if he can weld the Bellhousing, not the Block.
To the question of welding the Bellhousing, the answer is yes. I have welded(Someone else) back on mine before. I have one now that was welded back on around 10 years ago, and it is still holding. The trick is getting it clean, and flush with the mounting surface.
One of 2 things usually cracks and or breaks them off.
1- installing the engine or trans, they used that one to suck it up when it was on a bind.
2- When installed, the bell housing bolts were not torqued properly, and some worked loose, and put to much strain on the bolt hole.
I would replace the trans and or case if it was mine. It may work fine for DD truck but anything that is going to be driven hard may cause more damage.
Did someone forgewt to remove the top bell housing bolt when they pulled the motor?

No, i pulled the motor myself. I removed all 6 bolts from the housing but they were pretty tight especially the top two bolts and the motor came out with no struggling whatsoever.
I would look at buying a junk transmission at a junkyard for $100 or so. It will be cheaper then having it welded and you will feel better about it. As someone posted earlier, it looks like someone used the bolts to snug up a misaligned transmission.
I'm probably just gonna weld it and see how it holds up and if it starts cracking some more i would just go ahead and replace it again. A friend has the tranny at the garage and is gonna weld that broken piece back on.
