Transmission Troubles??

Okay, here's the low down...

I bought my truck June 21st of last year. It had 124,678 miles on it. The original owner changed the transmission fluid for the FIRST time right at 124,000 miles. Then, immediately after, the transmission started slipping.

He took it to a local "transmission" shop. They "rebuilt" it for a little over $1,600. Then, I bought it almost immediately after that was done. I drove it and drove it and drove it. Then, this summer, I got out into a two-lane highway, and floored it. At the shift point from first to second, it wouldn't take second gear. It was like it was in neutral. I revved the motor up, but the transmission didn't take hold. Finally, when I let out of the pedal, the transmission shifted into second when the engine was at idle. I never tried it again to see if it would do it.

Then, a little over a month ago, and over 24,000 miles after the first time it was tried, I punched it to the floor again in the same place. The same exact thing happened. I just figured this time and the other that it was the engine control module not having the "codes" or what have you for shifting at those RPM's. Then, the next morning, I tried it at half throttle... Same thing as the day before. After those times, I didn't do it again.

Now, here lately, there's the hill that I hit each day on my way to work. I hit overdrive in the straight bottom right before the hill. Then, as I get to the uphill curve, it shifts out of overdrive, but it doesn't go into third. It's in the "neutral" stage again, and it won't go into gear unless it's at idle. This happens everyday now.

It really sounds like I need to pay a visit to a REAL transmission shop, since everyone I talk to that went to the same place the owner before me did has trouble. Most I've talked to didn't even make it home after their transmissions were "rebuilt". I'm prepared to have it PROFESSIONALLY rebuilt, but I do want it to have a shift kit and some performance "towing" upgrades done... Just to help me out in the long run.

What do you guys think my problem is? Time for a rebuild, or something simple?

BTW, as you can see, when I refer to the shop that "rebuilt" the transmission, I use the term "rebuilt" very, very loosely.

My transmssion if referred to the "AODE". It's the automatic transmission with the 14-bolt drain pan.

Thanks for any insight.

Could be... I have thought about it being the vaccum modulator, but who knows...

I've floored this truck every time I pull out from my road onto the highway, and it has yet to skip out of gear. It just has a firm, positive shift into second. It hasn't tried the overdrive-to-third gear skip again, either.

I'm still going to take it and have it checked out, though.

Once again, sorry for the trouble, MustangGT221!

Ahh, so no vaccum modulator... I guess that narrows it down then!

Not harsh at all, brother. It wasn't taken that way, and it never will be.

You're just doing your job, and you're doing a doggone-good job at it!

Merry Christmas, everyone!
