The latest issue of Street Rodder has an article on adapting a different arm/handle to the T5 shifter.

Yes thanks AXracer, I ran over to Borders Bookstore at lunch and picked up the last copy. I was a little disappointed though because I have read some other forums where they mention installing a 1" spacer between the shifter mounting flange and the trans to shorten the throw. I was hoping that would also be incorporated in that article because that Swan shifter handle would probably make the shifter arm travel as long as the stock unit. And I think possibly, without the stops the aftermarket shifters have built into them. That long extention might allow too much leverage to be exerted and lead to internal wear in the trans.

That's basically what the short shifter kit does, raises the pivot I guess that you could make your own short shift kit by adding a spacer and moving the pivot up or extending the arm below the pivot an equal amount. I have a T56 in gracie with a short shift kit. The other thing the kit gives you is adjustable stops so you don't stress the shift rails.

AXracer thanks for the information on the TPI Gauges they look like the answer to the problem and I like how easy they are to calibrate.
Also do you know who sells a short throw shifter kit for the T5 transmission.

Thanks Rod

Thanks I got confused when you said "kit", I thought you meant a kit to convert the stock shifter to a short-throw unit.
