Help with finding tires, and lifting my 2005 Harley Davidson F-250
Hi guys...Since the Edge Programmer is in, now comes Lift/Tires!
I am considiring a 5-6" lift. I dont really know much about the companies (Best overall ride, ect).
1. What are my options as far as a 5-6" lift? I will NOT be using the truck for any off-roading, just daily driver, and i tow a construction trailor. I would like the suspension lift to maintain original ride quality as much as possible (aka not any stiffer). And the ability (of course) for larger tires. :-)
2. There is a possibility of getting the suspension parts powercoated the dark red (same color as the flames, and Harley decals). I see alot of "show trucks" with painted to match suspension parts. Anyone have a similiar set-up?
3. Tires! I am keeping the stock 20" wheels that came on the Harley F-250 from FORD.
- What size tires am i going to be able to fit with a 5 or 6" lift? I was thinking somewhere in the 35-37 range? (correct me if i am wrong)
- I would like a RAISED WHITE LETTER TIRE!
- Since offroading isint in the works, i wont be wanting a "mudder" style tread, but more of an all-terrain style.
i have been consdiring the following brands (tires)
- Toyo
- Pro-comp
- Nitto
- any others for 20" wheels?
Thank You For the Responses (in advanced) ,
Mark

Skyjacker/superlift with some good bilstien shocks will give you the lift with the ride quality for the price bang to buck. Dr donahough??spell?? racings kit is the best but alot more $$. tiers for stockwheels are the BFG's for the on-road but there most likely going to be skiny and for a tall tire to my it looks dumb too skiny So i would get some aftertmarket wheels that are wider to acept the wider tire. Dont be cheep like i did and regret. Do it right the first time and youll save money in the long run.
Do what sutes you look around the net. and you'll come up with someting.

I understand you saying about keeping the stock wheels...BUT i really like them since they are the 20" Harley Davidson wheels, that came with the Harley Davidson package on the truck from the factory. Anyone know the correct width of the 20" Harley Davidson wheels?? I was thinking around 8" or 9" wide? (Correct me if i am wrong)...Which would allow we to run about a 13.50 tire...MAX
And i changed my mind on the lift...I am thinking 6" is too large for my appllication.
What is the MAX size tire can i run with a 4" lift?? 36x13.50??
Thanks everyone for the help!

Okay, let's take care of the usage here.
You say you need to tow, won't be doing any real off-roading and want to maintain the original ride quality.
To me, this means using blocks in the rear. Reason I say this is this will maintain the original springs and if you have the overloads, you won't lose them. Also, you won't lose the load carrying capacity because you aren't going to softer springs.
Up front, you will have to do the spings, but this really isn't as critical to load carrying and towing.
Look at Donahoe, Skyjacker or Superlift. For what you are talking about, a 3 - 4" leveling kit with a new set of blocks would do you good.
Now with a 4" lift, go with 35 x 12.50's. I know you said you don't plan to off road the truck that much, but you still want to avoid rub issues from the wide tires.

Toyo Open country AT's are well liked and get great reviews, but I think the Nitto Terra Grapplers are great and are less expensive(made by Toyo)
ProComp makes a great At tire as well
good luck
def post all pics of your lifted truck and tires
try Discount Tire for a great range of tires and prices

Thanks for the input. 4" lift sounds about right.
Really, dont you think 35x12.50's are going to look too small? (lifted 4")
The truck has a similiar size to 34x11 right now on the stock suspension.
So if you can understand what i am saying, with a 4" lift, i would like to get the LARGEST size tire out of the thing... I just read a thread, on how someone put 35x13.50's on a 05 4x4 with no lift. Are you sure 35's are the max size i can go with 4" lift?

You might be able to go bigger with a 4" complete lift, but might have some rubbing issues on inner fender wells at full lock. It depends alot on width and offset of your wheels.
Also, bigger than 35s and you might be disappointed with your 3.73 gears, even with the tuner. Those 36s and 37s take quite a bit of power to get moving, and might kill some performance on starting and stopping.
I have a friend with a harley like yours with 20" wheels. He installed a leveling kit and went with 35X12.50R20s Toyo M/Ts on the stock wheels. It looks pretty cool.

Harley, I have an 06 Harley coming in and have been told the same thing by several of the people on these forums that if you go bigger than 35's then you are going to need different gears to get a good performance out of them. Me personally, am going to go with a 4.5" lift with 35's on there. Mine is going to be black with blue flames.

Harley-
Have you looked at interco's thornbirds? They are susposed to provide a nice ride on the road, but have big sidewall lugs that will help greatly if you get that construction trailer in a little bit of the soft stuff. I like them a lot and have a pair of 38's on order for my 250 which i am lifting 6 inches. I hope it fits . I may need a little body lift. Good luck with the lift and post some pictures!
P.S.- Sorry but I accidentally put this under the Coil vs. Spring thread. Sorry for the mix up. Good luck!

You COULD fit larger, but you have to take into consideration how much tire you can STUFF into the wheel wells when the suspension compresses.
Yes, the 05+ SD's can fit 35's without a lift, the bumper and fender liners were redesigned to fit the 34" Harley tires with snow chains and not have clearance issues.
Take a look in my gallery. My truck is an '04 w/ 6" of lift on 36's. Yes, they are bigger than you think. You MAY be able to go 36's, but I usually try to tell guys to go at least 1" smaller than the what the manufacturer says is the MAX.
The reason for this is you have to take into account the suspension settling, the tires stuffing into the wheel wheel, clearance on the bumper, frame, springs, and steering components, etc.
You can ALWAYS go bigger, it easy to sell a set of 35's, folks are always looking for them. But you will be highly depressed if you order a a tire that is too big and you can't even get it on your baby after you lift it.
