New 4R75E transmissions on newer F-150's

Is it true that the fluid in these from the factory don't ever have to be changed? I read on this site (a special writeup on the 04') that the transmission is maintenance free and the fluid never has to be changed. Is this really true? That's just really hard to believe!

My friend just had his 04 F150 to the dealership this past week. He was told to have the transmission power flushed every 30,000 miles. I plan on doing that when mine approaches that mileage. I tow about 6000 miles a year and feel that it would be wise.

Transmission fluid act's as a detergent, lubricant, and a hydraulic fluid. Transmissions by design wear there internal components, gears, and clutches mainly will cause a normal amount of metal/clutch debris in the pan. Flushing will not get this out of the filter. I would reccomend changing the fluid and filter every 30k or so. Ford has allways had service intervals every 30k on there transmissions up until the last couple years, there transmissions have lasted longer then say GM's that have not had service intervals for the past 10 years. I work as a claims adjustor for a extended warranty company. I see all make's and model's problems. Beleave me, the transmissions that don't have intervals fail a lot more then the one's that do. Example the 4l60e in the GM's on ave last about 60k miles until the need to be rebuilt, or replace, they have no service intervals from GM.

i guess no one here has seen one. there is no pan to drop or filter to change. they are 100% sealed , not even a dipstick.

I just bought an 04 FX4 that has this tranny. I have to say that I'm a little "skeptical" about something that Ford says will never need maintenence.

Time will tell I guess . . .

I can garauntee that it will never need any maintenance (spelling?) till it needs to be replaced

Changing a tranny filter is a moot point. If it is ever gets enough debris in it to need to be changed, then the whole tranny is up for needing a rebuild anyways.

At least it can still be flushed through the cooler lines. . .and how am I supposed to put a shift kit in it>?

Well, that's he point of this new design. If you use a Programmer to change shift speed and points, this tranny (unlike the 4R70) will shift FASTER and at the programmed points.

This 4R75e can shift faster if it's told to do so, so no shift kit needed with use a programmer.

the tranny filter is a moot point, because there is none. ford uses a screen

Maybe I'm on drugs, but my '04 manual says that it has a 4r75E, and my tranny does have a dipstick and a pan and filter.

The 4r75E is just an updated 4r70w, and the tranny I have in my '04 sure looks like the same thing 4r70w that was in my '02, however the '04 tranny doesn't say 4r75E, or any thing.

I just checked under my hood and chassis - I also have a tranny dipstick and a tranny pan with a gasket (labeled " this transmission pan is equipped with a reuseable gasket")

???

Yep, mine says the same thing. My tranny has a late '03 build date printed in black ink on the bell housing.

The truck only has 17000 so every thing is still nice and clean. I'll try to snap a picture of the tranny tommorrow for all to see (weather permiting).

This is quite a mystery. So do we have the 4R75e or not? If so, then there must be 2 versions.

?
