craftsman has a new bolt out tool for rounded heads. the set is 30.00 and works pretty well. i used it to remove some egg shapped bolt heads and it worked great, took them out in no time flat.
I have a set of Snap on turbo sockets they work very good. I think they are the same as Sears but came out several years before Sears. You don't nedd them often but when you do they have worked well for me.
Depends on how many starter bolts there are and and if they are easily to access. Starter core is $12. If the bolts were rounded off and pretty much impossible to remove, I would just use a cut off tool, cut through the starter housing and cut the bolts clean through. Then once the statrer was removed use vise grips, PB Blaster, and some heat to remove the stubs.
If the starter would come off if only the heads on the bolts were removed, I would grind (chop with dremel) the heads off, pull the starter, weld a nut to the bolt end, and try twisting it off with a breaker bar. Though vise grips would get a chance before the welder since the idea with the grinder is to save time and I hate welding on my back.
A few yrs back, a bolt head on my bro's Chev van broke off. So we finally got everything off, and couldnt' find a replacement bolt at the store. so I bought same size bolt, but with a bolt head that takes an allen wrench. sure was easier to get in there than a wrench. dont forget the anti-sieze.
