I went with the stainless (not polished) it is a step up from aluminzed. I dont like the color that the aluminized (dark rust look). Stainless has good longevity and looks good, most is hidden under the truck. Then slapped the shiny 5 inch tip on the end. Looks great for now but have only had it for a week. On my old truck it looked great for the 2 years it was on but it was a gasser, if that makes a different. The polished looks great I just didnt want to spend the extra $$$
Depends on how long you plan to keep your vehicle. The aluminized will rust through completely sooner or later so if you plan on having it a while go with the SS. I had an aluminized on my last truck and was surprised at how quickly it rusted. Just got my MBRP SS turbo back exhaust and am having it installed Monday. It will last a long time and look good while doing it.
I agree with all of the above, stainless is the way to go. But I bought aluminized and glad I did because of my lift, no factory stainless kit would fit my truck. The shop I was at happened to have the tail pipe that would clear my overload spring, fit perfectly, think it was from a kit for the 7.3. My truck is garage kept and I try not to drive it when it rains so hopefully the exhaust will last. It's a pro-flo 4" exhaust.
My '94' 7.3L with 255,000 miles has the original exhaust on it, no leaks and still in good shape. Diesels are easy on exhaust pipes, anything will last a long time, it rains a lot here, that doesn't make any difference, mine is even coated with mud and has been since 94, it gets in more mud everyday, I check the fields with it every day. Rusted yes, no sign of rusting through yet.
It depends on the tubing and how it is manufactured, some of the low priced systems don't even have an aluminized coated seam on the aluminized tubing where it is welded together!!! They will rust after the first puddle you go thru! The good systems like the MBRP we have have a coated seam and hold up real well unless you live is the satly North, If you live up there get 409 stainless at a minimum. It will turn gray/brown and get some spots on it but it will hold up and not perforate anytime soon. The best material is 304 stainless it's got a lot of chromium and nickel in it and for all practical purposes is rust proof for our trucks! Costs more but lats longer than you and I will etc. You have to make a decision based on how long you intend to keep the truck and where you live etc. Call us if you have any questions we have all the MBRP in aluminized, 409 and 203 as well as in the cool duals!
