The Dictionary of Alternative Expletives (Non-Profane)

Okey dokey, here my intention is to explore things that can be said instead of foul language. The theory is that if there is some other word or phrase we can use, especially if it is funny, it gives us some options.

Most of my choices are almost guaranteed to make people who hear them blink, and take notice.

1) Gadzooks!

2) GAD!!!

3) BALDERDASH!

4) Holey smokes...

5) DRAT!!!

6) Great Ceasars ghost!

7) NUTS!

8) BLAST! (also: BLAST IT!!!)

9) Good grief...

10) CURSES!!!

11) What in Sam Hill?!??

12) Godfrey Daniels!

13) CRUD!

14) Dash it all!!!

15) CONFOUND IT!!!

(many of these are classics, and tend to startle people)

There are some terms that have a whole new meaning when said sarcasticly:

Thank You!!! (Spoken loudly, and with definite insincerity)

Gee, Wally...

Yippe-Ki-Ay... (Of Bruce Willis fame)

Terrific...

And one I heard in a shop when a part being installed got ruined: "Aw, CHROME IT!"

Remember "SHMEDLY" from the Wacky Races?
(Dick Dastardly's dog)

I'm also trying to remember what Mork from Ork used to say...
Oh yeah. "SHAZBOT!"

Anyone who was around in the sixties and seventies - do you remember the term: "DIPSEL"? As in "That guy is such a DIPSEL..."
I think Cher used to use that phrase a lot.

You know wolfus, you may have given me an idea....

We shall start a new trend, if everyone here replaces their "cuss" words with clean ones, then the maybe, just maybe the world will take notice.. Then again we may all get shot in the end too.

In the mean time - anything anyone recalls that is an expletive which is not vulgar or foul....

ADD IT ON TO THIS COLLECTION!

(Gutter take the hindmost...)

It's a simple idea. Why be offensive, when we can still be colorful anyway????

In the olden tymes, "BLEU" words were very different. And in the UK - they still have the capacity to rip one to ribbons without a single unacceptable word...

For that matter - I wonder what British and Australian terms there are.

"BLOODY" for example, is considered to be an obscene term in the UK.
