Best Song?
What is the best song about Indiana?
Every year I look forward to Jim "Gomer" Nabors singing "Back Home Again in Indiana" at the 500. And I have always liked "On the Banks of the Wabash".
But what do you think is the best song written about Indiana?
(And I know some of you will be tempted to say "Small Town" by Mellencamp, but he never mentions Indiana by name. It could be a small town anywhere.)

Hey there, Church Turtle, I think you may have to widen the parameters a bit. You pretty well listed all the well-known songs that are _about_Indiana.
Popular songs that mention Indiana, or some place within, that I can even think of are "Indiana Wants Me" by R. Dean Taylor and "Little Green Apples" by O.C. Smith (...and it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime...). I like both songs but neither one is actually about our fair state.
Being a certified proud Hoosier, I am interested in all things Indiana. So your topic got me searching on the 'net for "songs about Indiana" and "songs with Indiana in the lyrics". Didn't turn up much, but I did find this link that provides clues to some old, old songs regarding Hoosierland: http://americanhistory.si.edu/archives/d5300nh1.htm
You have to scroll down to "Indiana".
Indiana is a great state with a rich history. It just doesn't seem to make it into many popular tunes.
If you know of other songs (that most people are probably familiar with), list them here and folks can vote on them.
