A friend of mine just bought a 2005 Aviator. He mentioned that the manual suggested the use of premium gas. Given that it is essentially a rebadged Explorer, why would it need premium gas if it has the same engine?
If this is like the Expedition (with SOHC 5.4L) v Navigator (with DOHC 5.4L), the Lincoln version will have a higer tuned engine that requires the use of said fuel grade.
The Aviator does indeed have a DOHC 4.6L, which makes me feel better about my theory...
The Aviator has the 32 valve DOHC motor that was used in the Marauder and the 02 Cobra. it is a premium fuel motor. Do not be foolish and try to save 20 cents a gallon that could jepardize a very expensive engine.
It is not the 4.6 sohc that was in the Explorer, the panthers or the pre 05 mustang gt's
