I am new on the site. I have checked most of the postings for the info I am looking for and did not see anything obvious. My 2005 Explorer XLT beeps when I turn it off. Doesn't do it every time, but most of the time. I have tried different ways of shutting it off (foot on or off of brake pedal, DRLs off or on) but nothing seems to have any affect. There are no info messages on the display. I suspect it may have something to do with the passive alarm system but I am not sure. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks
Are you sure the truck is correctly lached in park? Also when you power off is the driver door open? As far as the alarm, the explorer's dont have the ford factory alarm just securilock (computer chip in the ignition key) I dont that would interfere with the chime device though just when u start the engine and if there was a problem with that the theft light would flash. Also how long does it chime for and is its the fast warning chime or the one that just beeps 6 times slowly? I never had heard of this one b4 let me know if you figure it out thanx...
Yes, it is firmly in Park when I turn it off. There doesn't seem to be any doors open. Maybe a door switch is slightly out of adjustment but there is no "door ajar" message on the display. The beep is about 3 or 4 seconds long and is the last sound. It does not sound like the beeps or chimes when the lights are left on. It is more of an electronic tone. I have tried seat belts fastened and unfastened, parking brake on or off, and any other thing I can think of. Because it does not always happen it is difficult to tell if anything has any affect until I try it repeatedly for a few days. Thanks for the input and I will let you know if I make any progress toward identifying the cause.
if it is beeping it probally has something to do with the airbags. when you turn your key to the on position does the airbag light come on? i've heard that airbag modules beep when the airbag light in the instrument panel is blown. although i've never heard about this hapening when you turn the truck off, this normally happens when you start it up. do you have the factory radio in it? most of the new aftermarket radios beep when the viehicle is turned off. hopes this helps.

To all who have offered help: I believe I have a clue about the problem. It appears to respond to how fast I turn the switch to the off position. If I do it fast it beeps. There must be some sort of relay and I believe it is a little slow to respond. Most of the time I am in a rush and pop the switch off. I am going to try going slowly for a few days and will post again when I am sure. Thanks to all, Dennis Davis
