I am parting out a 1978 Ford F250 4x4 and need to know what the front axel is, dana 44 perhaps? It has no metal tag and it's not stamped on the axel anywhere. It has an automatic transmission, if that helps any. I would imagine it has a dana 44, although I am not 100% sure. Any way to tell? Also, the same applies for the trans and tranfer case. How do you ID them also?
Wasn't that the year that the dana 90 front end was debued as standard equipment, with 5:13 gears, and optional lincoln lockers and air ride??
Nah, but seriously, It probably has a 44 front(D60 in rare cases), C6 tranny, and NP205 transfer case.
The tag on the door jamb "should" tell you what axle came from the factory(with a bit of decoding), but try looking on the front of the axle on the left side right below the pumpkin.
The tranny is a C6. it is a sqare pan with a rectangular piece missing from one side, has 18 bolts, is about 12"+ inches wide.
The transfer case will have a aluminum tag on the front of it below the front driveshaft output.
