I am finally getting things together on my '66. I completed the front disc brakes, the rest of the new brake lines and hoses, tightened up all sorts of loose bolts, wires and assorted stuff today. I need to finish the fuel cell install and the new fuel lines and its ready to LIGHT"ER UP!!!
I'll get some pictures to post tomorrow, I was too busy putting things together to take pictures today!!
I am leaving the front fenders off until I get it into my shop, the weather is getting a little harsh for working on it outside
Hope all had a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the rest of the weekend!!
Thanks, John. Yeah, I am pumped, it has been over 4 years since it was running. I was going to repair the cab mounts/core support only, but then thought " Hey I can upgrade the front brakes and replace the fuel tank while I'm at it." So it turned into a bigger project!
Did you add power Assist to your Disk Brakes ? I did , and the differance in stoping power is amazing from the drums. no point in jacking up the Horse power if you have to book ahead to make a stop. :P
jav409-I did not make them power disc at this time. I am desperately trying to get it moveable under its own power so I can run it in and out of my shop(1 car shop) while still working on other projects.
Here are pictures of my NEW disc brakes, the first also shows the left cab mount and parts I replaced.
This shows some of the right side suspension, steering linkage(all new) and the right front cab mount that I welded in with the new polyurethane cab mount bushing.
This is a shot of part of the core support, it takes a look at the condition of it before this photo to really appreciate(a picture is in my gallery under progress). From junk to OK I hope.
The frame horns for the cab mounts also needed repair, which is why they are bolted on now. The white stuff around the edges is SNOW, I need to get it operational so I can get it inside to work on it!!!!
They are Prothane bushings I got from JC Whitney some time ago. The harder part of the mounts are the OE Ford sleeves and nut/washer seen in the picture.
It is nice to see it coming together, for a while I didn't think it would ever be a truck again!!
The MSD is supposed to be mounted in a cool location, I had some trouble with it on the drivers inner fender. It now gets cool air from the grille whenever moving and is away from the engine heat all the time.
The grille covers it up when I finish, so it will not come out easily at all.
If you mean while I am working on it...I live in a rural area with a long driveway and a BIG dog that makes lots of noise. Most people around here understand who calls 911 when a robbery is in progress
It's the crook calling for an ambulance to stop the blood flow!!
