I have a '91 F150 w/5.0L. I want to upgrade the fuel injection to a late model system. Besides the ECU what other parts would I need to complete this upgrade? restomod68@yahoo.com.
Exactly what are you trying to upgrade? The only difference may be adding a Mass-air conversion kit if you have made mods to the engine. Ford Racing Performance Parts offers that kit.
I haven't made any mods to it yet except for better exhaust. I am going to rebuild the motor right after the first of the year and want to do that upgrade also. I am making the truck my tow vehicle for my 68 stang that I solo autocross.
Welcome to FTE!
There are upgrades available, such as the mass-air conversion mentioned, but that engine will still have a hard time tugging around a trailer. If you have an overdrive transmission, you may want to get a lower gear ratio, maybe as low as a 4.10, to help get a trailer moving.
Yeah, I plan on putting in one of those RV cams when I do the rebuild. It does have an aod tranny. The rear end gears are 3:55's so I'll see how they do before changing the gears. Where can I get that mass air conversion kit?
It was offered in the Ford Motorsports catalog last year, but was listed as "limited quantity available" as apparently they aren't making the kit anymore. It wasn't cheap either - about $700 if I recall correctly. I'm pretty sure they have a phone number on the site to call, so they may still have a couple although they aren't listed on the site anymore.
hell, for that kind of price i can go to a local junk yard and pick up a complete, rebuildable, late model 5.0L and then just get the ECU out of the truck. thanks for your replies. will let you know how everything works out. charles
