1979 f100 with a 302 - c6 trans. No A/C. Radiator failed and water got into the transmission, so I am having the trans rebuilt and I need a new radiator. Stock is a two row radiator, but after reading some of the posts here, i am wondering if I should get a radiator made for a 351w with three rows instead of a 302. I do not tow, but I haul sheet rock once in a while, mostly use it to go camping and make runs to home depot.
Any advise and ideas on where to get a good deal would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick
You cannot have enough cooling so I would go with the larger radiator since the price between the two is probably not that much. You might try e-bay or just do a web search for radiators. I have replaced radiators with new ones from Autozone, NAPA, etc., that were all OK. Modine is supposed to be one of the better brands so if you can get one of that brand you should be good to go. Also, check with FOMOCO to see what they have since I have been surprised a few times by the prices of some of their parts in that they were very competitive.
yeah a junkyard windsor radiator would be your best bet, followed closely by a junkyard 302 radiator. The air conditioning only utilizessome mounting locations on the radiator to the best of my knowedge, so one with A/C should still work for you.

try to search ebay or you can check carpartswholesale and other part stores, i'm sure you'll find radiator for your ride. just look for a reliable dealer to avoid spending lots of bucks.
Very likely you can buy a new one for not much more than a used one.
I have bought several (for other apps) in the $75 - 125 range.
1-800-radiator is where I usually go, imports and Modine too..
Make sure you get at least a 3 core radiator as it is not just the width and height of one, it is also the thickness of the core than plays a big role in capacity.
but with that thickness make sure that it will still clear the fan and such. '79 shouldn't have too much trouble fitting, but you don't want to make a bunch of extra headaches.
Regardless of your feelings on my affiliations to horses, barns, high quality furniture, the thickness of your radiator is still a fan clearance issue.
