Help No - OD, Speedometer, Lights
Note: I changed the ABS sensor in the top of the differential, disconnected the battery and discharged the system by pumping the breaks. This did not fix the problem.
The following are not working:
- speedometer, odometer
- lights not working
- Overdrive not working and flashing on/off
- radio
- horn
- ABS flashing on/off
- vanity mirror lights

I am not sure by your post, but you replaced your ABS/Speed sensor on top of the rear pumpkind to alievate the problems you listed, correct??
- speedometer, odometer
That would be either your speed sensor (that you replaced, which could have been defective out of the box,) or your instrument cluster.
- lights not working
Are you talking about your head lights? Dash lights? I would pull your head light switch and see if it melted. Common problem with the Aero, all the Amps run through the switch. Some have replaced the switch and installed a relay for the current to the lights.
- Overdrive not working and flashing on/off
There is a code in the computer for the Tranny. In your year it is a 4r44e which is computer controlled. Get the codes pulled at your local auto parts store, and come back and post them.
- horn
Could be the clockspring in the steering wheel, or the switchs in the steering wheel. Do you have cruise control and does the SRS light blink?
- radio
Does it just not turn on or what?
- ABS flashing on/off
That is trying to tell you a code, count the flashs, I believe that it is a two digit code.
- vanity mirror lights
Have you checked this with a volt meter? Burnt bulb or loose ground, which could also explain your no radio and horn condition.
With some more info, we should be able to help you through this.
All of the problems that I had list occured at the same time. I was told that they were all related to the ABS/Speed sensor.
I will pull the Head Light switch to see if it is burnt.
Is there a way to check the ABS/Speed sensor to see if it was defective out of the box?
Thanks ..... A87
1. I pulled the light switch and it was not burnt, nor were the wires.
2. I checked all the wires to the light switch and the only one that has power (12 volts) is the yellow with black stripe.
3. I jumped the yellow with black stripe wire to the beige wire and the speedometer, odometer, radio, running lights (Canadian Aerostar) horn, etc.. works.
4. I bought a new light switch and this did not solve the problem.
Do you or anyone out there have any ideas?

once power is applied (jumped), all seems good? works properly? if so, I would definately check the fusible links. they supply power to a wide range of items, seemingly unrelated, as you have in your case. copper may be right in his suggestion that more than one is blown.
do you have the necessary schematics to locate the links? if not, post back and we can help with that.

He has power, so it is not the Battery.

Now for the jumping power, I assume that the wires you are refering to are the ones that are at the headlight switch. So either you got a brand new switch that was bad, or the ground is not grounding in the switch.

Let me put it this way. I'm just dreaming about those things these days. The mind wants it, but the body refuses.

I DO NOT have the necessary schematics to locate the fuseable links. If you have them could you send them.
