Valvoline Conventional in 5.4?

Have been using Valvoline's MaxLife High Mileage oil but thinking of switching to Valvoline's Premium Conventional, same weight/viscosity and in 5 quart jugs.

Any input or ideas?

I'm prompted to this switch mostly because Amazon used to sell these at $16 each when caught on one of their "sales"---today that's been relegated to their $100/year scam called Amazon Prime.

TIA

Hey JWA:
Detroit car dealers with rare exceptions (like Ford dealers who now use Motorcraft Syn Blend) have always used Valvoline. Some kind of strange monopoly with Valvoline and Detroit dealers... So we have run many vehicles hundreds of thousands of cumulative miles on Valvoline regular and never had an oil problem. My Subaru Forester and wife's Honda Civic have Valvoline regular in them right now from their respective dealers.

If your seals tend to seep, however, the MaxLife is a good choice. (I am running my '91 BMW 318is on 10W40 MaxLife--my original favored oil was 15W40 and I ran a LOT of Rotella through it.)

Oil is cheap compared to lots of other operating costs; if I were you and was having good luck with MaxLife, I would go to Advance Auto or whatever other store is having a sale on MaxLife and just buy that.

Have a great week,
George

i run Valvoline all fleet 15-40 in everything i own. been using it for close to 40 years now. from the 65 289, 66 428, the 3 79 351M's, the 88 7.3, the 99 4.6, the 2000 and 2004 5.4's and the 02 7.3.
plus in all the other cars and trucks i have sold over the years.
the 351M's all have around 200k on them, the 2000 has 254k on it, the 88 has 494k on it. none of the engines have ever been opened up and still have good oil pressure.

It meets FoMoCo's WSS-M2C945-A... it is a fine oil I would run it without worry.

Forgot to reply and thank y'all for your replies. I will re-consider the MaxLife usage now but good to know the conventional stuff is good too.

+1 I'm a Pennzoil guy myself but any name brand that meets the specification can be used with confidence. Valvoline, Castrol GTX, Mobil Super, Quaker State even Super Tech(I guarantee that WalMart does not want to deal with constant lawsuits so it is a good oil). I'd use any of those and not lose any sleep over it.
