more hp for a 4.6

I have a 1997 F-150 4x4 off road. I want to bring my hp up to around 300 maybe a little more. I dont want to buy a supercharger ($$$$), but I was wondering if there were a few things that would give me substanial power. I was wondering if there was a turbo kit out there or if someone has done it before. Ive heard of some programming software out there can anyone explain?

Do a search in the forum here and you'll find that the most popular modifications that get done are better exhaust system, cold air intake and a tuner such as a Superchips . The tuner reprograms the engine controls to make more power, firms up the shifts if you want, raises the top speed limiter etc. You can order the parts from www.motorhaven.com which is a site sponsor here. They help to keep our forums free for everyone
A turbo will cost as much as a supercharger.

Thanks, but do you think all of those mods will get me past 300 hp? I cant afford a blower right now, but I mite consider it in the future. Do you think my motor could handle it? Or should I just buy a lightning if I want more power?

Over 300 wheel hp? It'll be quite a few mods before you reach 300 rwhp, if you stay naturally aspirated. A blower will easily put you over 300 rwhp, and probably over 400 tq. Depends on a number of different things how well a motor can handle it. How many miles you have, boost pressure, condition of the engine, etc.
