before i put my new i6 into the truck, i am going to paint it with high heat engine paint. i am also thinking about painting the exhaust manifold and transmission while i have everything out. besides preventing some rust and making the engine, tranny, exhaust look better, does painting seal in the heat? if i paint the tranny, will it run hotter. what about the engine and exhaust manifold and all that stuff. am i going to be increasing the heat on everything? thanks for the help. sorry if this post is in the wrong spot...i wasn't sure where it belonged. thanks again.
chris
yeah the exhaust manifold will melt the paint you put on it. If you had headers you could wrap 'em. But as is you can only ceramic coat them. (it's really expensive)
alrighty thanks for the help. i didn't think the heat from the tranny or engine would be too bad. i just wanted to make sure before i did anything. ya with the exhaust i probably will just leave it alone. thanks
chris
Check with eastwood company, they'll have something specifically for exhaust manifolds, POR-15 would be the manufacturer to look for IMO.
Usually outdoor grill paint works great on headers, as opposed to engine high temp paint, how it would work on exhaust manifolds though, I have no idea, might be worth a shot. Just be sure and prep the manifolds properly before you do anything.
Good luck
