weekend job, remove top accessories, plenum, release fuel pressure and remove fuel rails
have you tried cleaning with Techron Concentrate 20oz in gas tank or bottle of Regane FI cleaner? most injector problems are contaminated or partially plugged spray injection tips.
what leads you to believe FI's are failed? have you ran a cylinder balance test?
I might add, try this. Run the tank down to about 1/4 tank. Add the large bottle of Chevron Techron FI cleaner and the small container of Lucas' FI cleaner. Run the tank as close to empty as possible, without running out. Change fuel filter. Fill tank and add the same Chevron Techron concentrate with LUCAS. You will notice a very smooth running and idling Aerostar, you just might be surprised! I did this procedure to my '87 3.0 V6, about three years ago, and it made a noticeable difference. Berrymen B-12 cleaner is also good, if you do a lot of stop and go, traffic driving. If you use the Chevron / Lucas method once or twice a year, your Aerostar's injectors will be spotlessly clean. I change the fuel filter in my Aerostar once every three years, whether it needs it or not, using either a Motorcraft or NAPA fuel filter, which I am told the NAPA filter is the exact same filter as the Motorcraft one, only with slightly different labeling. Always use new fuel line clips / accessories when replacing the Aerostar's fuel filter. Ed
Without a cylinder balance test I would be weary of replaceing any injectors, because you don't know which one or ones it is, and they may all be good.
