i have a question that is a little off topic. is it easy to convert from esof to manual transfer?
The transfer case is a different model - same thing, but the shifting setup is different, in that you can't just hook up a lever to the ESOF transfer case.
I'm assuming it's possible, if you get a donor truck or go to the junkyard, and take the transfer case, levers, linkage etc, and cut the appropriate hole in your floor (unless it's like the '73-'79 trucks where the hump in the floor was removable - haven't looked that closely at my '01 - YET!).
The good thing about the ESOF transfer case is once it's in 4x4, it STAYS in. So with ESOF, always make sure you engage 4x4 and that it works BEFORE getting into a bad situation.
my dads got a 6.0L 4x4.. it gets stuck in 4wd-low all the time, would upgrading the hubs solve this problem??
I doubt it.
When shifting into or out of 4x4LOW, you have to be in neutral, with your foot on the brake.
Is the problem only when coming OUT of 4x4LOW, or both going in AND coming out?
Sounds like the servo is sticking... but could be lots of other things too.
Post a seperate thread in the SuperDuty forum, and I and others will be happy to diagnose it from afar (talk about armchair quarterbacks, what do you call armchair mechanics?)
I was wondering the same thing after being under the truck doing the Sonnax mod last weekend. I noticed the hump in the floor board has the hole (covered with a rubber boot) and the transfercase has the ESOF attached. So you cant just take off the ESOF "thingy" from the shaft and attach a lever and run it throught the floor board?
