Firewall I have to guess on part of it....this one isn't typical of SP
SP is assembly plant - Twin Cities
H - should be color code, but none are H - could that character be an M? for Meadow Green
84 - body code for Chassis/Cowl (Unusual to be included, but fits)
20B - assembly date of 20 Feb (which is way out of place compared to the serial #) I would expect this to have been an 'H'
8698 - vehicle down the line
#634
Thanks mtflat
I double checked the firewall. The stamping is not deep but the 'B' I am pretty sure is a 'B'. The lower right part of the 'B' is rounded with a little bit of the upper right missing. Looks like b. The 'H' does not look like a 'M'. The middle line of the 'H' is horizontal. The lower right part is missing. Looks somewhat like??? I-'
The glove box, firewall and frame all match. Might have to add the truck to the oddity group? The rest of the numbers are clear but spaced out and grouped more like this. SPI-' (s p a c e ) 420b (space ) 8698 Only other marking is on the bottom part on the inside of the hood, and I understand it may mean nothing. 7 - 20 - 4 Thanks again.

Keep in mind Ford used capital letters. The 'b' is actually the number 6. Ford used the same stamp for 6 and 9 which had a straight leg. Ford also used the capital 'I' for the number 1.
This makes your string "SP1? 4206 8698"
The 7 - 20 - 4 on the hood makes more sense to me based on the serial number. It should be the date of assembly July 20, 48. This was often stenciled on the cowl and uses the common month/day/year.

9 - 49/50
8R - V8
Y - F3 heavy 3/4 ton
426897 - late 1950 production
Firewall:
M - Meadow Green
KC - Kansas City assembly plant
14G - July 14 assembly date
143 - vehicle down the line

F4 was designated a one ton for years 48-50 - could be had with either single or dual rear wheels. Serial numbers used the letter T as the 4th character. GVRW was 10,000 Uses the same wheel bolt pattern as the F6's.

Interesting - I'll keep chewing on it and maybe Carl will check in with his take on it.
Keep in mind Ford used capital letters. The 'b' is actually the number 6. Ford used the same stamp for 6 and 9 which had a straight leg. Ford also used the capital 'I' for the number 1.

SP = Saint Paul
1 (could the 1 be a 7) ? = could be color = Meadow Green
1? (could the ? be a 6) = Could be color 16 = Chrome Yellow
4 = Birch Grey
206 (could the 6 be a G) = 20th July
8698 = down the line (someone said that this is per day, I think this is down the line in that month)

Best way to do this is probably to ask for the following information:
1 - Year truck is registered as (or believed to be)
2 - VIN # (The whole thing including the 98RC, 98RD, etc.)
3 - Bed - Raised Panel or flat panel
4 - Is this the original bed
5 - Transmission
6 - Column shift or floor shift
7 - # stamped into the firewall if you have one.
I'm new to this forum and am looking forward to helping a few and learning a lot from the rest of you. My F-1 is as follows:
1. 1949
2. 97HC212719 RIC or R1C Not sure which. I can not find any plant code that matches either of them.
3. Bed is raised panel
4. Bed is original
5. Trans is 3 speed
6. Floor Shift
7. 7RHI0E6I56 would like some info on what this number main mean. The two letters I are definitely not the number 1 unless they are written in Roman Numerals.

Ford used the capital I in place of a number 1. Helps keep things confusing : )
97HC 212719 RIC
9 - 1949 with a serial number in that range
7H - 226 ci flathead six
C - halfton
212719 is the serial number
RIC - Richmond CA assembly plant (this isn't actually part of the serial number but was added to some of the data tags on the cowl... I doubt that you'll find it on the frame stamping)
7RH10E6156
7 - color code for Meadow Green
RH - Richmond Assembly plant
10E - assembly date of 10 May
6156 - vehicle down the line
#645
You know most of the info already.
9 - 49/50
8R - 239 flathead V8
C - halfton
334729 the serial number
TB4D74 doesn't fit much of what I have gathered together. Are you sure that's all of it?
4D might be the assembly date and in front of that is usually the color code and assembly plant code.
Any idea what the original color was? Under the dash, behind the kick panels or around the gas tank are places you can usually find traces even if the truck has been repainted.
