Is it as blue as the picture indicates?

Sheridan Blue usually was code B or 5 in 1950
I have one note that Birch Gray used code S or 4 in 1950

As blue as my picture of the firewall? Yes. All internet searches show sheridan blue pretty dark. The color I see beneath all the other coats of paint is similar to what you see on the firewall. Birch Gray might make more sense!

mtflat, I have a not here of Sheridan Blue being S (also saw something of S = Special Paint). You have it as 5 being Sheridan Blue and S as Birch Gray. I'll change mine to correspond.

I was asking more than anything else - the paint codes for 50 are all over the place. It appears sometime mid year Ford (or the plants) switched from numbers to letters. The info I have came from individuals describing their paint colors and the color code that they had. I won't claim it's accurate....

Special paint is usually SS - I thot of that one too...

Now that I've gotten to sand down some of this other paint looking for more rust spots, it would appear that the firewall is in fact the color of the rest of the truck. Internet searches for "Birch Grey" looks like a proper match.

Was it standard practice to paint the firewall proper but the sides of the engine bay are black? Or is that another "custom" job from previous owners?

VIN 98RC447300 KC
firewall stamp - SKCI0H191 the 0 could be a O to not sure.
The cab is as follows

Thanks for posting your info.

From the Serial numbers and firewall stamps:

The cab was produced 17 Jan 1950 in Kansas City
The truck was built 10 Aug 1950 also in KC
Both were V8's and half-ton trucks
They both were originally the same color. Do you know what that was? If you read a few comments just above your's you will note we don't agree on the S code. Pictures would help!

Not really sure on how to upload pics and the complete truck has been stripped and is grey however the inside of the engine compartment and inside of the box and tailgate are all a cream yellow color. The parts cab appears to have been black and untouched. Also how rare is it to have a 1950 with 3 spd column shift with a both-Warner overdrive trans ? Sounded like the trans was an option in 50 reading through old articles but not sure

Welcome to FTE... We have a great bunch of people on here!
Nice looking truck, great looking parts too. I see you have small rear windows. And the black cab has ribs down the back wall. The Black bed is an early style raised sides bed and the grey on looks to have a late style smooth side bed. Did either have dual wipers and/or dual visors? Did either have radio installed? Heater? Passenger side outside mirror? What's your plan for them both?

I've decided that I would like to add a few more items to my database. I would like to add a column for original steel or wood bed, Orginal Cab Lights (Large Trucks), and another one for if yours came original with passenger side mirror. If anyone has any info they can share I'm current on passed pages of info, Just need what you know

I've been collecting this other data for a while:
Series:
Serial Number:
Assembly Plant:
Firewall Stamp:
Firewall Stencil:
Color:
Built Date:
Engine:
Trans:
Column or Floor:
Window Size (Small / Large):
Bed Sides (Raised / Smooth):
Heater:
Wipers (Single / Dual)
Sun Visor (Single / Dual)
Radio
Dome Light
Cab Lights: NEW
Bed Floor: NEW
Passenger Side Outside Mirror: NEW

1950 Paint colors
1950 Color Codes - Ford Paint Cross-Reference

Thanks for the pics and guessing from them, I'd say your complete truck was originally Silvertone Gray but you can decide for yourself. Paint colors have a part number, but there is no corresponding code from the firewall.

1950 truck colors included Vermillion (Red), Raven Black, Palisade Green, Meadow Green, Sheridan Blue, Silvertone Gray, Birch Gray, Dover Gray, Sunland Beige and Prime.

The column shift came out in 1950 trucks. The overdrive trans is fairly rare but not unheard of. The black paint looks odd to me - perhaps touched up at some time? There's a lot of overspray in areas I wouldn't expect to see it... and if our info is correct, it lists the same paint code as the whole truck. ????
