No, you're thinking of Richmond, which was in CA.

I had to catch myself earlier, wondering how that truck got so far from home

"14F - assembled June 14, 1951 <probably> (Ford used this old serial string until Sept 15, 1951)"
Did they really assemble a '50 truck in '51?

The ONLY place I have seen that reference is on the LMC website and catalog, it is NOT AT ALL TRUE.

The data shows that LMC is probably right. I've seen the reference a few other places too.

Have you ever actually seen a 1951 truck with the 49-50 sequence. I have not. Now my 51-52 database isn't as large as this one here, but NONE have that sequence.

Well, I just finished putting all this in a spreadsheet. and now I would like to fill in information. I would like to find out more information about these trucks.

I'm looking for information to put with each vehicle serial number (later named VIN);
  1. Branch information (can be found on the Patent Plate on passenger side of firewall the second is stamped into firewall?
  2. Heaters: Fresh air or cab air system?
  3. Cigar / cigarette lighter?
  4. Dome Light?
  5. Arm Rest?
  6. Also large trucks: Who has PTO? What's it run (Winch, Hoist, Dump bed, Auger or a power shaft)?
  7. Dually rear wheels?
  8. 2 speed rear end?
  9. Trans brake?
  10. Those with trans brake, Does the PTO work when trans brake is on?

I was doing more research on my 98RTL VIN with 226 that appears factory..

Came across this old listing for V8 F4 with 98RTL VIN also.

I guess I don't know all your history of info, but 98RTL should indicate a 239 V8 as in the link posted.

The 226 I6 was set up differently - battery and starter solenoid on the driver's side.

Is that what you have? If so, it's quite possible your truck should have serial prefix of 97HTL and was mis-stamped.

Thought I would post to this thread so as to keep it up in the more recent pages, and to double check my data entry to make sure it was correct. This way, any new owners can register their trucks if they so desire. Also to keep Moe busy with his database.

I read my firewall stamp 2 DL D 11 over 2012

Worked on my FW some today. I found my FW Stamp for those that are trying to do a data base of this information. But first my serial # again is 98RC179143. The brake down of the FW Stamp
2 DL D 11 - 2012
2 = Vermillion Red
DL = Dallas
D = April
11 = 11th Day
2012 =
the funny thing to me is that Bobbytnm (found his info on post #35) was born after mine by a month but his last 4 numbers are 1008 lower than mine.

Vin Number Help

I have purchased a what was believed to be a 1950 Ford F5 American LaFrance Fire Truck. The title is lost and am in the process of getting a bonded title.

Here is the Vin Number.
88RT-97146

I believe what I am reading here it is a 48 is that correct?

Yes, it would be a 1948

8= 1948
8R= 239 cu in V8 flathead
T= F5

1949 & 50 would start with a 9
