1948-1960: 1949/1950 VIN # Cut off

I am curious as to what database did you find that on? Bradevans is correct, the 49/50 cutoff was around the 268000/269000

Joe, I checked my F4 serial number against the numbers that bradevans had posted and my number is 98RT-158974. According to his beginning number of 166980, that would make my truck a late '48. There is a stencil on the lower center of the firewall that is 1-24-A, which I assumed was Jan. 24 A shift. If that is the case, wouldn't my truck would be an early '49? It was assembled in KC. Also, on the glove box tag, the bottom line is printed Series F4 Model, then stamped, WBTD. My truck is dual rear wheels and a 9' script bed, is that what the WBTD would signify?
Thanks, Mark

I'll throw the information on mine, titled as a 1949 F4 DRW. It was probably sold new as a cab and chassis as when I purchased it, it had a non stock wooden bed with a PTO driven hydraulic dump bed installed. It had the 226 and T9 transmission. It had a yellow stamp inside the cab that indicated early 1949 build date. I think it coded to March.
ID #: 97HT1860xx. Cowl stampings are SP22B2635383 as near as I can tell. NoL anywhere.

The tag on the glove compartment door does say TL.

Sorry Ray, I should have been more clear. I was asking about the painted stencil at the bottom center of my firewall, 1-24-A. I assumed that is interpreted Jan 24 A shift. Is that correct? Also my glove box tag doesn't have the serial number prefix as 98RTL, but 98RT, but again I should have been clearer. I was curious about the four boxes in the lower right hand corner after the printed word Model. Mine has WBTD stamped in those boxes, what is stamped on yours? If your truck came from the factory without a bed the letters may be different than mine.
Thanks, Mark

Have this f-1 collection
As suggested by George, the purpose of this thread is to try and determine what the VIN sequence # cut off is between the 1949 and 1950 Ford Trucks. It would also be a good opportunity to try and identify the VIN # cut-off for other little 1950 oddities like the raised panel bed being converted to a flat panel bed and the floor shift three speed versus column shift three speed.
Best way to do this is probably to ask for the following information:
1 - Year truck is registered as (or believed to be)
2 - VIN # (The whole thing including the 98RC, 98RD, etc.)
3 - Bed - Raised Panel or flat panel
4 - Is this the original bed
5 - Transmission
6 - Column shift or floor shift
7 - # stamped into the firewall if you have one.
?'s 3-6 may not be relavent if the truck has had major mods but if you know anything about what was there it would be helpful. I'll be sure to keep results updated. I need to figure out how to set up a link to the spreadsheet or data base I use.
Participation is obviously voluntary but would be greatly appreciated. Any other information on the truck you may want to provide would also be welcomed.
Sugggestions for other information to collect are also being welcomed.
Thanks,

my 1948 stake bed vin- has glove box numbers with model WBC also has fire wall tag, and body stamp...but unfortunately no frame numbers or a frame...vin 87 HC- 162946, and body couldn't make out forth caricature but here goes 16k(?0c?)16258...I got the long running boards and the script bed, but the cab is in poor condition, probably because the stake was removed from the front and something heavy slid into the cab...oh and it's chrome yellow...also any pics of how the bed is straped down to the frame at the wood...KC..
. F-3 has all tags but cab floor has been cut out...cool color- matador red poly- Brown- vin 87hy150530....body number 7RHI4G1430.... Richmond...
. F-2 has all tags but I'm taking off the bed from previous...98 RD 209365....no body number... meadow green... Richmond...
F-1 panel 97 HC- 208178. No glove tag... Birch gray.... Highland park Michigan...

Color code 3
Thanks to everyone who has helped gather this information. It has been a great help to me in identifying my recently acquired F-1.
I have a '49 with 3 2B 229 stamped into the firewall. From reading this thread I believe this means the truck was originally Black and assembled on February 2, 1949.
Is everyone in agreement that 3 is the code for Black?
