Just got back from the DMV with my title in hand. Doing the bonded title routine here in AZ was a breeze.

Congrads! What did it run to put a bonded title on the '48? Is it regestered as a '48 with a bond?

The truck is regestered as a 48, F1 In the space where is says "Previous Title Number" it says bond. They require a bond for the potential value of the truck. In my case they said that that value was $19,125.00 so I had to get a Bond for that amount. If you do a little shopping you can find and insurance company that will Bond for 1% of that value or $191.00. The title search cost $3.00 and the Tile was $4.00 so My total cost to get the title was $198.00. They also told me that when I am ready for plates just bring in the title and they will issue plates, no inspection required. I have a total of about three hours invested in this process and that includes loading the truck in the trailer to get the level one inspection.

Ditto?

MN usually has a blanket cost for a bonded title ranging $200-300

I wish that I could answer that question. I was somewhat supprised when they told me the Bond amount seeing that I spent under 2K for the truck. However will I have 20K in the truck when it's done, yea probably. I am just happy to have the title without any hassle from the DMV.

One explanation is that back then, not everyone could read or write, or one not paying attention, could easily stamp the wrong letter. Human error was very real back in the day, not like today with everything done by robots.
While cleaning out my shed yesterday, I took this pic to further show the serial number weirdness, lol.

O well were off to the DMV next week to see about a title.
My truck may be a twin to yours, 87HY stamped on driver's side but F1 by all indications, wheelbase, bed, wheels, fenders, etc., right down to the definitive stainless F1 emblems on the cowl . If it is a composite, all of the donors were originally Vermillion Red. According to legend (P.O.), the truck was built in Long Beach. The glove box tag is long gone, firewall tag is illegible & no firewall stamping. Somewhere, maybe earlier in this thread, I recall seeing a Long Beach truck in original paint with stenciling rather than stamping on the firewall.

Does your 6" measurement refer to the height of the frame rails? Where did you make this measurement? I haven't measured mine yet, but I believe they are shallower & thus standard F1.

I measured the frame rails just behind the cab and this was the outside to outside measurement of the channel. I just happy that we were able to get a title. My truck is now almost completely disassembled, The new 302 is just about done and the rest of the powertrain is in the garage.

88RC52981 it's a 48 V F1 with a serial number 52981. 7RHIIE571 is this stamped in to the cab.

It sounds like the assemble stamps. This isn't on a tag, but into the cab. There is a Patent Plate that is on the passanger side of the firewall, there is also a Rate Plate that is placed on the glovebox door. Others have figuried out the assembly stamps, but I havent...

I think you're missing some letters
8 = '48
8R = V8
C = F-1
(here there should be an assembly plant code, 2 letters)
52981 = consecutive production number for that assembly plant

No clue on the 7HII... stamping; Could it be HM, which stands for Highland Park MI plant?
