Here is a link to the pictures that I shot when I first bought the truck. I found it right here in Prescott and the frame looks in great shape and the cab is not rusted out and very solid. I was going to restore it back to original but seeing that it so mixed up I am leaning on making it another Hot Rod.

ChuckRob, looks like a good start. Before you get to involved with it, start the process of getting a title for it... It's no fun putting money into it and then find out you can't register it... No battery in it, does it run? If not is the engine free. She has lots of potential! She has a 48-49 bed (steel floor & stamped sides). Kind of looks like the patent tag is on the cab firewall on the right behind the hood springs

Title process is first on my list. I have never done the bonded title process here in AZ before, some say it's a snap others say that it is a real pain, guess that I will find out. The flathead does not run, rod problems, however I have not taken the engine apart so I don't know if it's salvageable or not. If I can fix it I wll keep it, if not I have a 302 here in the shop that would work. The only thing that I have done to the truck is remove the bed and trying to figure out what exactly that I have. The patent tag is there and there are some numbers stamped int the cab on the drivers side but I don't know what they mean. They are 4 5 20 LB any ideas?

There should be the serial number on the patent tag. Waht is stamped on it? The stamps in the cab it self isn't anything writen in stone and varies from plant to plant... but from my understanding the first is the color
4 = Birch gray
5 20 = not sure of the
LB = Long Beach
Keep us informed about your title work.

Welcome to FTE!
The frame stamp can be found by scraping / sanding the area of the right side of the frame under the hose in your picture just ahead of the rivets. Mine was really covered, and required a lot of elbow grease to reveal. That is the VIN.

The more that we look into this truck the more confusing that it gets. We have the frame number, it was located in front of the motor mount on the drivers side. It is clearly for a F3 number however the truck is on a 114" wheel base, not 122" and the frame shows no signs that it was shortened. The frame rails are 6" as a F3 should be. O well were off to the DMV next week to see about a title.

My F1 is also titled with the letter Y. Look at the leaf spring shackles or the motor perches for a letter C in the part number, and notice if they are held in place with the original rivets. It has been documented that some f1's were titled with the letter Y instead of C. (Y typically meaning F3 and C meaning F1)
One explanation is that back then, not everyone could read or write, or one not paying attention, could easily stamp the wrong letter. Human error was very real back in the day, not like today with everything done by robots.
