First time at this forum

Hi, I just ran across this forum and see lots of good information. I have wondered about the true age of my F1, registered as 1950, but has floor shifter.
VIN 98RC310169, Manual 3 speed on the floor, Raised metal bed. I cannot read the stamped # on the firewall, but not sure if it is original. The rear end has the older style cover with the sharp angles.

Welcome. Everything that you given us so far says 1950. Most of the 50's actually still had floor shifters. Show us some pics of your truck and we can tell you for sure.

I'm not sure what pics will show that you haven't already told us. Sounds like an early 50 truck. Thanks for posting.

It would be great to see a shot of the firewall stamping. You might try doing a low-tech pencil rubbing on paper over the stamping. It might just bring out the details enough to figure what it is.

I've layered the paint on the stamped number too thick to read or get a pencil etching. The numbers on the metal plate on the firewall is 98RC * 310169 * LOU, at least I think that this is correct, it's hard to read.

You're so close! I don't want to steal your thunder and post the pic for you. (nice truck by the way, lol) Just go back up to your last post there and click on "edit". Your picture address above is missing one little simple "[" on the left side of that address (not sure how it got deleted). In other words, make it say "[img]http:......." Then save the changes and we'll see your truck.

I am from Brazil and I just purchased an old 48' F-6 truck.
I´ve reading about the VIN number of this kind of truck and it is a little different that the VIN number in the frame of the mine truck.
The VIN number that appear in the frame of my truck is *8RI-47579*

Does anyone can help me to try to decode this VIN number and check if it is a correct number?

Thanks all.

Rodrigo

Hello Rodrigo,
Welcome to the forum!

There is very little information or data available for us for trucks not from North America, so anything we might share would be strictly a half-educated guess.

Using what we know from US numbers and hope it is somewhat accurate for your truck, the 8 is for 1948, the R is for 239 flathead V8, the I, I don't know. It could be a number 1, or it could actually be the letter T, which is what it would be if it was a US-built F-6 truck. The 47549 is just the consecutive unit number, or production number. That's about all there is to tell on the early truck serial (VIN) numbers.

Hope this helps.

Hi friend.

Thanks a lot for your informations.

It helped me a lot because I didn´t know if it is really the VIN number of the truck...

Ok,
8 from 1948
R from 239 Flathead
I - Icheck again, it is really difficult to see, but it is an "I".. maybe for exporting it could be a different number.

What is the best store to buy parts for this truck? I always visit summit racing...

Thanks again

Jessie's VIN

Moving a bit away from the original thread and into mid 50's.

Looks like Jessie came from Corpus Christi, TX in 1976. Looking at the title I have it looks like a father-son handover.

VIN is F10D5D13101

Based on what I've read until now I'm guessing:

F10=F100
D=?
5=1955
D13=April 13
101=Production number

I don't know if the first D would be plant, engine, or color code; as far as I know it was originally red.

There's a few pics and a build thread under her name.

Your decoding is incorrect. Build dates are not part of the VIN.

F10 = F-100
D = engine code 223 cu. in. 6 cylinder
5 = 1955
D = Assembly plant; Dallas
13101 = consecutive unit number

Hope this helps.
