Thanks for the info! You could very well be right about the C8 being a CS, and the C3 being a CS as well, it was cold out and raining when I was checking them numbers!

Built November 2nd.......but what year? 1949 or 1950?

UPDATE: You are correct, further cleaning has confirmed that both the firewall ID plate and the stamping on the cowl area show CS. Thanks!

'50 as near as I can tell. Ford issued blocks of numbers to plants and some used them faster than others, so it's not an exact science.

F-1 on EBay

There is a 1949 F-1 truck on EBay today, selling as parts only, but he posted a photo of the firewall plate with serial number. It is 98RC205799, and being sold out of Lawton OKla.
The truck has raised panel bed, and a small rear window.

There is also a 1950 F-1 truck, 98RC455389, V8 truck, 3 speed on floor, flat-sided bed that seller claims is original to truck. Small back window. it is in Ottertail, MN.

And there is a 1949 F-2, serial # 98RD251666 listed for sale in Swaledale, IA, it is a V8 truck, floor shift, raised panel bed, small window.

Not sure if you want info like this, so please advise.

What dash does your truck have? Front ends swap completely and many have over the years. I'd bet thats what happened with your truck, cause 51's weren't produced when it was built.

My 48 F1 had a 52 F1 deluxe front end when I bought it. Happened pretty often from the looks of things.

Is that the serial# from the frame? as well as the firewall and glove box tag?

Also, the first C should not be there. Is the box, the early(raised panel) or late model?

As noted, it's common for parts to be swapped around on these old trucks. Have you verified the vin on the chassis with the title? The frame vin can be found on the top of the right side frame rail near the motor mount, looking down from under the hood. If that matches your title, then you've had a body swap. If it doesn't, you've been given a title to a different truck.

51 or 52

Are we doing 51/52's?
Just bought a F-2 8ft Express
It looks like a 51 but the title shows a 52
Flathead 6, 4spd Crash Box

Found two F1's in a wrecking yard today.

First has flat bed sides, big back window and 48-50 dash, front clip and floor shift. VIN on glove box is: 98RC-479431 Model 9RC.

Now that I look closer it appears that it is a 51-52 dash that has been cut for a 48-50 gauge cluster.

Second is a 51/52 with glove box VIN: F1R1RH-17032 and model 1RC.

The first one is of real interest. I have heard of these 50's with big back windows and 448-50 dash but I've never seen one. If you are headed back out there I sure would love to get more information, especially the firewall stamping. Great find.

Howdy Carl, I hope life has been treating you well. Nice to see your light on!

The first one has a 51/52 cab - or at least that dash. The trim line is clear around the radio area.

The vin is missing a digit - it needs six of them after the prefix.

I too would like to see what the chassis # is. Too many pieces missing to go by the glovebox door only (and it must be loose in the pile cause its not on the dash)

I'd call it a 51/52 with a 48-50 front end. Even possible the cab and box were replaced... thanks BPD, we learn something every time.

I'm curious if the PO cut the dash to make a '48-50 instrument panel fit the 51/52 opening? Plus add the front clip? Like Tim says.

Secondly, that first truck looks to have 15" innie wheels on it.

Texan,
You're not gonna believe this, but here's another one of those hanging around on ebay. One of the members noticed it a few months ago, and it caused a big discussion. Everything fits to be the "unicorn", but some members finally just wrote it off as having its back cab panel replaced. Possibly after a wreck a LONG time ago. But I'm not so sure.

I just noticed the dash trim and edited my post above. I also added a few pics and the last digit of the VIN on the 1st truck. I think you are right about the truck being pieced together. The two trucks came in to the yard from the same place and both are loaded with extra parts.
