If your title says its a '48 then sometime it had a typing error because that serial number is makes it a '49

 

I scrubbed the vin plate off and it now shows 9 for 49.
The add said 1948, and when I looked at it before cleaning it off, it looked like a 88RY.

The 9 prefix was also used for '50 models and with your serial number of 299367 I'd say you have a fairly early 1950 F3, probably produced in January or February of that year. 280-285,000 is approximately the cutoff for the production year.

 

Hi, I'm new guy here, and I thought I'd post some info about my project truck.

1. 1949 F2
2. VIN: 97HD183834
3. Bed: Trim strips proud of wood.
4. Original...Bed will probably be replaced
5. 4 Speed Spur Gear Tranny
6. Floor Shift
7. No stamping on firewall visible, but the PO painted over it with a broom, so who knows??
8. Original color: Meadow Green

This is an old farm truck with a factory installed Cattle Catcher. I'm the second owner. From what I understand the truck was primarily driven from Ukiah, CA to Willits, CA and back on pretty much a daily basis for the PO to have coffee with his buds. Approx. 30 miles round trip.

I have the engine at the machine shop at present for a go-over and then I will rebuild it. I plan to stay with the 226H and 6v electrical...We'll see.

I have to say that FTE is an outstanding source of information and inspiration. Thanks!!

My name is Saul, Im from Pasadena TX. I was looking for a cab to build me a ratrod when I found one and went to see it the seller had a full complete truck and I ended up buying both. He said the truck is a 1948 but after reading the info i found n this forum I believe it to be a 1949.
Here we go.

1 - 1949
2 - VIN # 98RC2124**
3 - Bed - I dont know the difference between both
4 - the bed is from another 49 (according to the seller)
5 - 3 speed
6 - floor shift
7 Branch HP

 

Hi Saul, I'd say you have it figured out - it's a '49

If your box walls are smooth from floor to bend at the top, it's a late box. The early boxes have an impressed panel on the sides that extends out into the fender area with a corresponding notch in the fender.

Branch of HP is Highland Park, Michigan assembly plant.

Just for fun, what is the serial number on the parts truck? And are there any stampings on either firewall? That gives you more info than the serial no.

Hi everyone. My wife and I just picked up a '49 that was parked inside on blocks since 1992. Here's the info:

1 - Year truck is registered as: 1949
2 - VIN #97HC218413
3 - Bed - Raised Panel
4 - Original bed
5 - Transmission: 3 Spd
6 - Floor shift
7 - # stamped into the firewall: 21_ _ 17_?

The tags are missing from the glove box and firewall, but I did confirm the VIN on the frame rail (passenger side just in front of the axle). Unfortunately the firewall stamping is very hard to read. Maybe it was the end of the production week and the guy swinging the hammer was tired?

 

Hey Sparky, maybe my truck was owned by a relative of your truck's original owner. It looks like someone painted the top of my truck with a broom and it spent it's whole life in Stanislaus county and Anderson, CA.

 

BPDaddy, that looks like a solid project, indeed. The numbers indicate it as a half ton, 1949, with a 226 cid I6.

My F1's stamper was light on the hammer as well. He also used the wrong letter, lol. Every individual part number on my F1 is marked as 8C**, and the title and serial number is marked 8Y** It's been said before that anyone who worked in the factory didn't always speak English, and most probably couldn't spell worth a darn. How times have changed, lol.

 

Yeah BP...Ya never know. I think that broom painting was a common art form with farm trucks. My F2 spent it's entire life in Ukiah, Mendicino County as far as I know.

Hey guys. Hope you don't mind if I post my newly acquired F5. I was told it is a 1948. Here's the VIN: 98RT374957. Cowl stamping is LU MME3L233D. It does indeed look like it was originally green. Any info would be appreciated.
