Oil pan Gasket

My gasket on my 99 f250 7.3 is leaking. I lost 2 quarts of oil. I was wondering how hard it was to change. Are there any step by step forums can some one send me a link.or post it. Where do i buy the gasket? Thanks in advanced

You're not going to like the answer.

There is no gasket. It's RTV'd (silicone sealed) at the factory.

The engine almost has to come out to re-do it.

It's very unlikely that your "gasket surface" is leaking.

The pans typically develop rust-through leaks, instead. These have been known to be fixed with epoxy. To replace the pan, the engine must be pulled. I believe Mitchell flat-rate manual calls for 12 hours.

You will do well to find the leak is really somewhere else.

Sorry for the bad news.

Talking

I just went through this this past weekend, mine's was leaking from the gasket at the front of the pan, I thought the same thing that the gasket was repaired already with silicone, I didn't know it came from factory like that, anyway I trimmed off excess gasket with razor knife, then i cleaned area with carb cleaner and then i sprayed it down with brake cleaner so that it would dry real good and then i put some high temp orange silicone on and smeared it with my finger to make sure it covered area. So far so good, I know replacing is the way to go but it's a hell of a job, so I'll keep an eye on it and see how long my quick fix holds.. Oh by the way I didn't know about oil pan rusting out mines looks like new..... Rodney

i will look carefully to look for other leaks, it was just my assumption that it was the oil pan. I had no idea that it had silicone. How hard is it to remove built up dirty greasy oil from my frame and pan.

Elbow grease works wonders for this task.

are you sure it is the pan leaking? is it towards the rear of the pan, where it buldges down around the front of the bellhousing? it might be bad turbo pedestal o-rings or a loose turbo, allowing pressurized oil to seep/spray out. good luck.
