Question How to get better milage from my '02

i have a 02 f-250 powerstroke, i just got back from a trip this weekend where i put 921 miles on my truck. I went to south bend and back for one heck of a notre dame game, but anyway. From my calculations i only got 16.7 and 16.4 mpg there and back. I have a Hypertech Programmer (it was on Stage 1), K&N Air Filter (just been cleaned), and 3.73 gears with 285/75/R16's. I ran between 60-70 the whole way and kept my foot out of the throttle. i really thought around 18-19 would be what i would get. My dad has an '01 with a 120,000 miles and he got 18.5 doing pretty much the same thing about 2 months ago. My truck only has 60,000 but i don't think that would have anything to do with it. My dads truck is 100% stock except for a Superchips programmer (it was set on stage one as well). Plus is the first stage of my hypertech programmer the best setting. thanks.

Have you corrected for tire size differences? Other than that, you should be happy with that kind of MPG in an HD truck.

How about rear end differences? Are they configured the same? Cab, bed, options? Manuals, autos?

I truely think it's the difference in the mileage on the trucks. I have 87k on my truck and I now get 1 to 1.5 mpg more on long trips than I did when i had 50k on it. The more miles on it the more MPG's I seem to get. Good thing too, since diesel is now at $3.39 per gallon. I have the same truck and got 17.5 on an 800 mile trip last week. At least it gives you something to look forward to.
