Door seal problems

I bought some new door seals off E-bay that are supposed to be for my truck (78 F150). I installed them 3 months ago but they seem to thick. I still have to slam my doors to get them to shut all the way. Any suggestions or thoughts.

I put new seals on my truck a long time ago and to this day if all the windows are closed the doors require extra effort to close. Really all you can do is ensure that all the adjustments possible for the hinges and the latch assy are correct and don't pull too hard on the door cups as if they are plastic they will crack.

What brand (or ebay seller) were they? (So that others know to be careful)

Next time try dennis carpenter, I know the price is higher than a lot of kits, but this is something I plan to spend the extra $$$ on for the quality.

The brand of seals is Metro "Supersoft Sponge". Metro is in Minnieapolis, MN and the Ebay Seller is 1AAutomotive.com. The label on the box said 73-79 Ford Truck & 78-79 Ford Bronco.

Is it normal for the doors not closing easy for awhile even with a quality seal or has anyone had the experience of them closing good from the start.

I just called 1A Automotive and they said I may be able to adjust the door latch the catches the strike pin about 1/4" to get it to work. They were very polite. I try it and see if it works.

Adjusting the door latch did not work. They told me to loosen up the 3 big screws and it would adjust. I couldn't get it to adjust. However I did fix the problem. When I bought the truck there was electrical tape wrapped around the door strike pins on the cab. When I was painting the jambs I took the tape off. My wife suggested putting the tape back on. I did. Now the doors close fine. I guess the closing mechanism wears down over time allowing for some play causing the door not to grab the strike pin. I guess its time to replace the closing mechanism on the door. I don't like the fact that I have electrical tape fixing a problem even though my truck looks like crap on the outside, I have done a damn good job on the interior. Many thanks to my wife. Now I have time to work on her 71 Fastback today.

I Just replaced the cab door seals on my 79 f-100, got them through LMC Truck, they fit nicely , my doors were also hard to close for about the first week, but as the seals get formed to their new position, the doors are getting much easier to close.

you can adjust the striker out (the part that has the Torx bit on it in the jamb) your latch itself wont adjust, they must be thinkin of chev or something else. I bought mine from Dennis C and mine are also hard to close, had to adjust the striker out a bit.. not to much as you still want them to be tight..

Maybe you just need some rust holes in your floorboard to help the release of pressure inside the cab. Like on most ford trucks. Its pretty cool in the summer, no need for ac with all of those rust holes!!!!!!! Funny

All of the weather seals I used on my 79 were directly from Ford. It has been just over a year and they are just now starting to form so the doors will close easier. Should be great in another year!!!

You can get a new strike pin at most parts stores for under 10 buck. origanally theres a white plastic filler where you put the tape but it breaks eventually. Its common, just replace it and the door will close right.

Yup to all the above. I put mine on 2 years ago and it took almost a year before I didn't have to slam the doors; even after adjusting the striker pin. Problem was worse when I first replaced them because it was in winter. First warm spell helped.
Good luck
Dak

Just head to the salvage and get some pins from just about any 70s Ford car or truck. Just take the old one with you to compare. I have some from a 1972 Gran Torino which are identical to the type in these trucks.
