would like to lift 7.3, 2002, any tips?

i would like to lift my 2002 7.3. I need a lift/ tire combination that would be suitable for highway use and some offroad capabilities, such as going through old logging roads and skid trails, what are the best tires for this and i would like to keep stock rims if possible as i am on a bit of a budget, i was thinking along the lines of 35"s so how much lift would i need and good tires for my use, any help would be appreciated.

Also i have heard about auxillery transmissions, any info on this would be nice, i have a standard 6 speed (02)

My 2001 has a 6 inch lift and the 35 inch tires fit without trimming in the front. I could have gone with a larger tire, but did not want to cut anything. The rear tire well could have fit a larger tire with out doing anything. They say you could go with a 4 inch lift and fit a 35 inch tire, but would probably have to do some trimming in front.I have skyjackers, but there are other lifts out there.

well, the manufacturers of my leveling kit (2'' front), say that you can stuff 35'' tires under there with no lift (a lift kit, speaking of). but however i wouldnt go that much, my ford mud guards almost rub when turning with stock size p-295's. i am looking at Toyo Open Country AT tires. great on and off road traction, high mileage too. a very popular tire from toyo is the Open Country MT, which is the same brand, just the mud version. however toyo is fairly expensive, but you get what you pay for. i am looking at 33'' AT's with no lift.

I put a 4" Superlift kit with the optional Bilstein shocks on my 2002 F350 7.3L PSD 4x4 CC SB SRW. I bought American Eagle Series 114 17x10 wheels and put 35x12.50R17E Super Swamper TrXus MTs on. Good tire for the money. If I had more money I would have liked the Toyo Open Country MTs but they were also hard to find. Many dealers could not get them and they were on national backorder. I needed new tires fast so I choose the TrXus. After trimming the bottom of the plastic bumper part, I have absolutely no problems with rubbing or hitting the springs with my current tires and wheels. Just make sure you get the proper backspacing on your wheels which is 4.5" plus or minus a tad. Makes all the difference in the world. The Eagle 114's had 4.65" backspacing and fit very nicely within the fenders. The Eagles are lug-centric as opposed to hub-centric. Most consider hub-centric to be better but the Eagles had a tight tolerence with the holes for the studs and had very little play when they were put on before the lugnuts were attached. I used lugnuts from Gorilla Products which I think are the best ones on the market. Just check them out and you'll see what I mean.

I have a ProComp 4inch on my 2001 F350, I went all out and got the dual front shocks, and the traction bars, I run 36x13.50 on 16.5 rims and I didnot have any rubbing issues. I do plan on buying a 1inch front bumper spacer just to open the gap up alittle. I can still pull a gooseneck trailer, but it isint exactly level. Hope this helps!

Smile choose your lift carefully

I had a 01 superduty gas with a 6" and 35 bfgs and it looked fantastic but you couldn't go down the road without rattling your bones it was way to stiff and uncomfortable so I sold it and bought a 99 crew cab diesel with a tuff country 4" soft ride and it has 35s and it rides great. I don't know what the lift manufacture was for the 01 but it made a tremendous difference. With the 99 you can even drink a cup of coffee while you go down the road. I also am running the new toyo radial muds and these tires are quiet and look awesome. I am not sure how they do in the mud but from what I have read they do fairly good.

Check out my gallery,6" Revtek with 37" BFG mud terrains. Only thing I had to do was shim the front bumper out 3/4" of an inch.

After tons of research, I went with the 6" Superlift, all spring with Bilstein 5100 series shocks. I couldn't be more happy.

The grill was on the truck when I bought it. I'm sure the emblem hurts airflow, enough to hurt performance of the engine, no way.

no, i meant how closely-spaced the rails are, opposed to the fairly-open design of the stock grille. i wasnt talking about the emblem

Depeding on your budget, i would make sure you get a good quality lift with a good leaf pack in the front. I was on a budget when i bought my 6" lift, and it looks good but rides rougher than rodeo bull. Wish i would have saved up and bought a better riding lift, something with a 10 or 12 leaf pack in the front.
I run 35x12.50(315/75/16) mud terrian tire on a 16x10 wheel, with my 6" lift, and i have no rubbing issues at all offroad. A mud terrian or an good AT tire would probably work fine in the offroading you want to do. A toyo mud terrian would probably suit you good. As far as stock wheel goes, i dunno how well a 35x12.50 would fit on a narrower stock wheel.
