Ok I did a search but really did not find anything. Any oil weight/ additaves i sould be putting in my motor?? any a desent cleaning oil? My motor is really not to dirty except on the rockers? anything i can use to clean these? I thought about motor flush but was told it would smoke if i used it?? So i would like recomdations on oil, and what i can use( eather intenal as a supplement or manual as in take covers off and clean) to clean my rockers with. I have taken the oil pan off and cleaned as well as intake and valley pan. thanks

 

just use a good oil and filter. no need for flushes. use a diesel rated oil in the 15w40 grade like delo,delvac,mystik,rotella and you will be set.

Because it still has zinc additives, which help lubricate high-pressure wear points like the cam-lifter interface. As virtually all new vehicles have roller cams, or cam followers, they don't require as much zinc. (Less combustion chamber deposits with the new zinc-less oil formulations).

If diesel spec oil isn't an option, you can also use GM's EOS as an oil additive, or Crane SuperLube, or even STP. Any additive that lists ZDDP will work. Also, racing oils generally have the zinc compounds, if you can get the correct viscosity, & can justify the extra $$$$. Me, I'm cheap.

FWIW, it's most critical to use this type of oil when breaking in a new engine, or new cam/lifters. You can get away without it on an existing engine that's well broken-in....but it don't hurt any.

Regarding oil additive containing ZDDP. I made an inquiry over on the Oil and Lubrication forum. The guys over there recommend the Valvoline Synpower brand additive due to the amount of ZDDP it contains, 230 ppm. The additive labels may say that ZDDP is contained, but not the amount. For instance the SciTech additive is labelled as containing ZDDP, but it is only 20 ppm.
