Question How long will a 5.4L live?

Hi all,

I did a search...but came up with nothing. So here is my question...

How long will a 5.4L live that is well taken care of? Regular maintenance 3000 mile oil changes, etc.

The vehicle in question: 2002 F250SD Ext. Cab SB 4x4 5.4L Auto 94,000miles (high mileage for sure)

Thanks,
biz

It all depends on how much money you have.

If I have this 5.4 for long enough and it doesn't reach 200K (74K ATM), I'll be pissed. Regular 3000 mile MC 5w30 oil changes with MC FL-820S filters.

If the engine doesn't "eject" the sparkplugs or the heads don't "weep"/leak oil then you should be set for a long engine life. Of course depending on how it was maintained for the first 94,000 miles of it's life will also influence it's future longevity. If the sparkplugs haven't been changed ever I'd do it. Use Motorcraft plugs and antiseize on the plug threads and dielectric grease on the COP wires. AND MAKE SURE YOU USE A INCH/POUND TORQUE WRENCH TO PROPERLY TIGHTEN THE PLUGS. Sorry for screaming but I've read too many posts where plugs blow out shortly after they were changed. I can guess that the new plugs were not properly torqued but just "tightened". That doesn't work when you have only 3 to 4 threads in the head to hold the plug. If the plugs were changed recently I'd check the tightness of the plugs with the inch/pound torque wrench. It's a bear to do but it can be done if you take your time. And it's a lot cheaper than having to buy a $3,000 head job .

Beat of luck!
