Any 312, 292, or 272 would go in as a direct replacement. 239 from 1955 or 56 would also work, but I expect that would be too small for you. Donar trucks would be 1955 to 1964. Donar cars 1955 to 1962. You can go to [url]www.ford-y-block.com for reference of block castings.

They may be hard to find relative to more recent motors. e-bay, old junk yards, backyards and barnyards are all possibliities. You are posting on the Y-block forum, so know that most of us here are Y-block enthusiasts.

If you find a Y-block that doesnt need to be rebuilt, you will be very lucky. Y rebuilds usually cost more than others. A post on the 61 to 66 forum may help in IDing other motor swaps which are easy on your 64.

Not too hard to do. Just about any old truck catalog has swap kits for all Fords, and SBC. I would keep the Y though

You will find that the FE is a bolt in swap as it came out in the 65 truck model but was available in cars since 58 as an option to the Y block.

Talking Why swap the engine??

My question to you is: why would you want to swap the engine? Seems like your 292 Y-block is rebuildable. Finding a good second hand Y-block is not easy, at least not for us in Europe. If you have the possibility to rebuild the original Y-block this always is the better option.

If this does not work, you can always purchase an "new" old Y-block at Recon, like we did. The outside is old, the inside is total new!!

Just take a look at our website http://www.fordfront.nl, goto "techniek", click on "Klik hier om naar het fotoverslag déassemblage 292 c.i. Ford V8 Y-block te gaan" and enjoy the pics of the Y-Block. As you can see it is not that hard to take the Y-block apart, building it up is more difficult hahaha. We wish you lot's of wisdom and succes, hopefully everything will turn out good for you rebuilding or swapping your block, because riding your Pick-up gives great pleasure!

Greeting from Holland.
