If your willing to do alittle elbow grease, I have heard you can cut and splice the bedsides off the 73-79 boxes onto the 80-96 box.

Ive got a bed for dual tanks. Its mosty surface rust, its got a bed liner in it. Located Lake Geneva WI. On a scale 1-10 ide rate it a 7.

paid 150 shells for a used shortbox ,,had a hard time finding one so i went with a fixer upper, had to do body work to the wheel arches

You know, I've been thinking about new side panels for my '79 full size bed. I saw this thread and did a little research online. I found LMC truck parts' site and --just using them as a reference point-- it looks like you can get all the sheet metal, brand new, no rust, for about $1440. They claim to ship free for orders over $1000. Yes, you have to put it all together and paint it, but you're probably going to have to repair and paint a used bed too even if it is "rust free". Unless you just don't care about the paint, of course.
