I can tell you in 88 the following transmission codes were used for the full size pickups.
M Mazda M5OD
Z ZF Close ratio used on Diesel. Wide ratio used for Gas engines
K Automatic C6
T Automatic AOD

Thanks for the reply,i can use that info since im going to be heading back up to the junkyard tomorrow figure out what kind of tcase the 88 has on it & i might just wander around again and see if there is a z or k 4x4 there while im at it.

The 88 F series used a Borg Warner 13-56 Transfer Case.
There were three versions.
Manual version for F150, F250, F350 and Bronco.
Electronic shift version used on some Bronco's.
Also some of the F350's had the PTO version.

Well thats not good news on the transfer case,im 100% sure its not a 1356 for sure , i have 2 of those here.
