[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Jun-02 AT 08:35 PM (EST)]Ok I have a 1978 F150 4x4 with a 300-6 4 speed. I got a truck from a friend with a 302 4 speed 2wd. Will the 2wd tranny fit my 4wd transfer case? And are there any other conversions I need to make? Please help me before I start to play with it and get myself in trouble.:-X11

I did this same conversion a few years ago. If you want to keep the 4 speed then all you really need to do is move the perches that the engine mounts bolt to. This will require some fairly simple modification to mount the perches. (I welded mine and I have been plowing snow with it for 5 years without a problem) You will also need the throttle cable from the donor truck.my engine came out of a 79 cougar so I had to change the pan and oil pump pickup. I used the car exhaust manifolds and had custom dual exhaust built for it by a local shop.Your truck probably has 4:10 gears in it like mine. I run 33" tires and it always has enough power to take off in second.take note of the lower radiator hose what side is it on? you may need a different radiator. you will want a different one anyway if yours is the little 6 cyl rdiator. you will need one more item hopefully the donor engine has the correct clutch pivot bracket bolted to the drivers side of the engine block (it drops the pivot point down about 2 1/2 inches or so).I had to fabricate one.Hope this helps.
