Yea I have read throught the countless # of posts on the rear main oil leak and have my truck back in the shop for the second time for it at 30,000 miles now. I thought I would try again due to not want to spend $100.00 on it over 36,000 miles when it started pouring out. Should not have to. It seems ridiculous to me that there is no better explaination other than some excess factory grease when you have so many of these things going south.
There has got to be a better "theory" to this madness other than excess grease. It could explain a few. But all? Come on.
No one ever said "all" to my knowledge. I do remember a post regarding possible rough casting on the rear main seal surface. If I remember correctly, it may have been KW5413 that mentioned it a month ago or so. Something to check out anyway.
Good luck, T
Wasn't it a batch of motors from one of Ford's plants that had the chronis RMS leak?
International's plant, actually. If I am not mistaken it was mid-year 2003 to early 2004 productions at the Huntsville, AL plant. Excessive geometric tolerances (circular runout in this particular case) caused the seal to seat incorrectly into the bedplate portion of the RMS.

Actually, I believe I originally picked up on that from Ford_Doctor's site
Got back with new rear main seal. Mechanic said first replacement seal "was chewed" up some how. Drove home now the oil is hitting the driveway. Took it back for a third rear main seal install yetserday. This is stupid!
If anyone has ever tried to remove the rear crankshaft primary flange when changing the rear main seal, it will cause the engine to eat up rear main seals. I've heard of people removing it, because it makes it look easier to change the seal, but once removed, it can't be aligned properly without replacing the crankshaft.
