At one point in time i had a ebpv

I know for a fact my psd has a ebpv. i have heard it. but i havent heard it runing in almost 2 years. i could hear it from the tail pipe but i cant now. I will tell you that i had a turbo put on the truck shortly after i bought it. could it still be unplugged some how? the truck will go to high idle but i havent heard the valve working in a long time. i even tried to push the rod over at high idle once to see if it was stuck. any sugestions on what i should do to get it working again? or to check if it is working? should it cycle at start up regardless of temps?

Open that exhaust up and gut the valve. Not really needed unless you want to make a brake out of it or you live in very cold weather state.

i dont want to do that. i need it for th e brake mod and besides, when i have to harvest trees in the winter time it gets darn cold. last year it got down to -25 on the mtn. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. it was snowing sideways. its kinda hard to harvent christmas trees when its that cold but hey. i love it. it wasnt uncommon to have th motor warm up and then to hear the high idle kick in and out, several times. this is why i need to get the ebpv working.

The high idle function operates independently of the EBV function. If you mean it hasn't idled up, then you have not met the required conditions for it to do so.

I see. Well, I suppose the backpressure solenoid could have failed. Can you get your DTC's read? If it isn't working there should be a P0475 or P0476 code stored in your PCM.

Added on edit: If the PCM detects an exhaust back pressure or intake air temperature sensor fault it will disable the exhaust back pressure device.

I'm not certain that it can be serviced seperately, it may require replacement of the turbo mount pedestal...if that's the problem.

He's online now.

Perhaps I should clarify. The solenoid is internal to the turbo mount pedestal and nearly impossible to access with the pedestal mounted on the engine.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Believe me Cookie88 knows a LOT more about the PSD than I ever will. 99.9% of my experience is with VW and Audi. I am here to learn too.

so what do you think about the ebpv kwik?

Should it cycle at start up?
How would i check to see if the solenoid is working? i was thinking something along the lines of a circut tester. but where do i test.

forgive the 20 questions...i just dont know what i am doing when it comes to the psd. i had a dodge with the cummins and i knew that motor inside and out.

I use mine as an exhaust brake only. I live in Seattle where the weather is pretty mild compared to where you live and the heating function of the valve is really not necessary. I think that it would be good if you got it working again. That's some pretty cold temperatures to be idling. If you were working the engine all the time, putting it under load, that's different. But at -25 and idleing the air is so cold going into the engine that it will simply carry off all the heat and drop the operating temperature down too low to keep it clean inside.
