Someone here turned me on to the Metalshapers website where I found some pictures of some flames and scallops embossed into sheetmetal. It is a bit hard to see where they would fit on our trucks, and I doubt I have the necessary craftsmanship to add them to my truck, but what a neat idea.
If I had a long box I would be tempted to add scallops to the sides of that slab-sided boring box - but a short box seems a bit short for this sort of art.
Stainless is too stiff to work with for that kind of work, you could do it in 19ga steel tho with a hammerform. The embossing will add stiffness just like bead rolling. Flames would look good on a tailgate!
I don't know much about metal forming...other than making patch panels at the body shop....so i have a question...how would you go about doing the embossing or the flames or scallops cuz I found a project around here that I am currently starting on that I think would look killer with those...any info please post or PM me..THANKS!
Check the "Learning Center" on the Metalshapers Association (red button near the top) http://www.allshops.org/ ,
go to Metalshaping 101, under "Beginner Basics" look at the page "Flame Embossing" by Jacin Barnes. He even gives an email link. http://metalshapers.org/101/index.shtml
There are other ways to get that effect, some that will be even more dimensional. When we do that in precious metals it's called repousse (rep poo say).
