'92 F150 Nite (4x4)
I'm seriouslly considering picking up this truck next week that i came across last weekend on a truck lot near home, i drove the truck and everything seemed to be in pretty tight order (other than a check engine light) and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on what specifically i might want to give a good look over on the truck. It has the 5.0 V-8 with 87,500 miles, body has been repainted (i asked and it wasn't involved in an accident), the 4x4 works good. On the lot at $5995.00, i've got em down to $5600.00, so far :-)
Thanks for the help & advice.

LAST EDITED ON 13-Apr-01 AT 07:46 PM (EST)[p]To me that seems like an excellent price for only 86k. I would recommend taking the truck to a certified mechanic or gear-head buddy and have them give it a thorough looking over. Even if it does cost you a little, it's well worth it.
For specs, the truck has
a 5.0L w 195hp/270ft/lbs of torque
9.0 compression
Borg-Warner 13-56 transfer case
Dana 44IFS front axle
Ford 8.8" rear axle
It would either have a E40d or AOd for an automatic or a Mazda 5-speed. The E4od has a overdrive cancel switch on the shifter, and a OD,2,1 on the selector, and the AOD has OD, D, 1 in the selector. Both are good, just one is electronically controlled and the other vaccum. I would say it probably would get around 16mpg on the highway and 12-13 in the city.

Thanks for the reply and specs on the truck, i was wondering about gas mileage just outta curiousity. Considering he started out at $6995.00 on the website i figure it's worth the money. You can see the truck at www.sprinttruck.com, follow the trucks link.

Run a code scanner on it. You can get one for around $30-40 at Sears or your local parts store. More than likely, it's time to replace the O2 sensor.

That new paint might be covering rust in the box wheel wells but a '92 shouldn't have too much rust anywhere else, even in an area where winter salt is used. Like was said above, have a trusted mechanic go over it from one end to the other, oil pressure, compression, front end, u joints (theres 5 in the 4X4) etc. If the dealer has a problem with this, walk, he's hiding something. It cost me $75 to have it done on mine. That $75
saved me at least $3-400, things my mehanic told me that needed doing and the dealer ended up doing for me as part of the purchase price. For reference, in Feb 2000 I paid $8500CDN, about $5500US for my truck with 52K miles on it.
