[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-02 AT 09:48 PM (EST)]Can anyone tell me why my np 205 transfer case hooked up to an np435 wont go into low range? It slides into 4Hi ,2Hi and neutral, but not 4low which is all the way forward...I have tried getting into it while rolling forward, backwards, parked, and for some reason it just wont slip all the way in. Can anyone help?
Is the linkage well lubricated? Is it bent or binding? Is the shifter bottoming out on the floor pan?

the shifter and linkage all apear to be straight and somewhat clean...not brand new or anything but i cant see that holding it out of low...as for the shifter bottoming out...no it isnt... When i push it all the wa forward it just bouces back..wont grind or anything...
I had a simular problem, mine would pop back out and now it grinds a bit and want's to fight rather than go in.
There are two holes to insert the shifter into and an adjustment on the shaft, you should start by removing the back part of the shaft and turning it so that it's longer then try again.
The two holes give long & short throw to the shaft but I didn't change mine, just kept adjusting until it worked.
this is just an idea but check the simple stuff first--how is the oil level in the case? if that is ok and you dont see any visible sites of binding, you might have a bent shift rail/fork within the t-case from someone jamming the case into 4-LOW
just my 2-cents good luck!
try this take the linkage off the t-case and with a long prybar try to push it into 4 low all the way back into the case if it goes in than its in the linkage if it dosent go into 4low than its the t-case and probally a bent fork
